On Monday, Ravens' star quarterback, Lamar Jackson, publicly announced via his Twitter that he officially requested a trade from the team on March 2nd.

With Jackson now on his way out of Baltimore, speculation on his next team has been rampant. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been slated as a team to monitor on the Jackson trade front, but Bucs' head coach, Todd Bowles, put any rumors of the team making a move to acquire him to rest on Tuesday.

“‘We’re shedding a lot of money,’ Todd Bowles says when asked about any chance of pursuing Lamar Jackson, saying they couldn’t afford to make a competitive offer but think he’s a great player,” per Fox Sports’ Greg Auman.

The Buccaneers recently signed veteran quarterback, Baker Mayfield, to a one-year deal to compete with Kyle Trask for the team's starting QB position. The Bucs were able to get Mayfield on a cheap deal due to their salary cap situation, so going after a guy like Lamar Jackson seemed like a long shot from the get-go.

The Buccaneers' front office and staff have made it known that they are fully behind having a quarterback battle this offseason for the team's starter and Mayfield is aware of the situation as well. The Bucs will most likely need to add another quarterback to round out their QB room - either in free agency or the 2023 NFL Draft.
