Tampa Bay Buccaneers Star Tristan Wirfs Previews Nick Bosa Matchup
Tristan Wirfs and Nick Bosa are two of the best respective players at their positions.
Wirfs has been First Team All-Pro and Second Team All-Pro, while Bosa won the Defensive Player of the Year last season.
On Sunday they will play against each other for the first time on the NFL field. The Buccaneers and 49ers played last year in Week 14, but Wirfs missed the game.
Ahead of the matchup on Sunday Wirfs talked about how hard it will be to play against the 49ers and how the Bucs offense can find success.
"Yah I am excited to be going up against those guys. Nick Bosa is an incredible pass rusher, they just got Chase Young, they got Hargraves and Armstead on the inside. They have a great defensive line."
"The biggest thing is staying out of third and long. They want to get the lead early and let their pass rushers eat. If we can keep it in third and manageable that'll be huge. Staying out of third and long is going to be big."
Wirfs and Bosa both played in the Big 10, at Ohio State and Iowa and only matched up against each other one time (2017) and will now be playing against each other for the first time on an NFL field.
Wirfts recounted the matchup and said that Bosa actually was ejected from the game.
"Yah we played in 2017 my freshman year of college. He actually got ejected from that game in the third quarter for headbutting our quarterback. That's the last time I played him."
This game will be massive for the Buccaneers as they are fighting for that one playoff spot in the NFC South. So a win against San Francisco would be a massive boost.
