In professional sports across the United States, the debate of the greatest player of all time is an incredible debate. Positions matter in their respective sports, so the argument is a tricky one.

According to New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady is the best offensive NFL player of all time.

“I feel like I’ve coached the best offensive player, the best player in football in Tom [Brady]; the best defensive player in football in L.T. [Lawrence Taylor] and the best special-teams player in football in Matt Slater,” Belichick told The 33rd Team’s Mike Tannenbaum.

Brady is arguably the greatest NFL player of all time, positions disregarded. He’s widely known across the sporting world, and even non-viewers of the NFL or football know who Brady is.

The former Buccaneer quarterback spent the majority of his career with Belichick in New England. He spent 20 years as the Patriots quarterback, before playing three seasons with the Buccaneers, which led to his official retirement.

During his career, Brady won seven Super Bowls, including one with the Buccaneers. He won the Super Bowl during his first season with the Bucs’ at the age of 43. Winning seven Super Bowls is no easy feat, and Brady was able to win his final one in Tampa Bay at an age that most NFL players have already started their second career.

After recent reports of Brady and Belichick having a good relationship, and their relationship not being the reason Brady left New England, this statement from Belichick backs up that claim.

Though Brady was highly regarded as the best quarterback of all time during his playing days, it’s much easier for it to be recognized now that he’s no longer playing, following his second retirement since joining the Buccaneers in 2020.
