Trade Talks Surrounding No. 3 Pick 'Starting to Pick up' for Cardinals

Arizona Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort says calls have begun to come in surrounding the No. 3 pick.

TEMPE -- Arizona Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort met with reporters ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft and answered a handful of questions.

One of which were his goals for the draft:

"I think we're trying to get as many good players and good people on the team as possible," Ossenfort said.

"So I think every draft is important. I think this is a big opportunity for us to add talent to our team, to add the right type of people that fit our team from both a talent and a culture standpoint. This is a major step in the league year of opportunity for us to add those players."

However, there's plenty of buzz surrounding the Cardinals and their desire to move down from the No. 3 pick. Arizona could potentially take advantage of a quarterback-heavy top of the order and gain a significant trade haul for the future.

Ossenfort wasn't willing to show his cards (no pun intended):

"I think with any trade that comes up, there's got to be opportunity, right? It takes two teams to make a trade, that's the first thing. I think that's something that we're gonna really dive into next week is if the phone does ring and someone shows interest, we're going to have to weigh that, right? It's a give and take," Ossenfort said.

"Is there a player there that we want to take there? There's only two players that are going to be drafted ahead of where we pick. So we have to weigh that versus if there is an offer and what exactly that offer is. I think those talks will really start progressing next week, but it's one that we're going to have to wait and see just what what opportunities are or aren't there. There has been discussions I'd say back as far as the Combine, it's pretty preliminary back then. It's started to pick up here and I would say it's going to continue to pick up as we get closer to next Thursday night."

One player plenty of Cardinals fans covet - should they stay at No. 3 - is Alabama edge rusher Will Anderson. Arizona has lost starters such as Zach Allen. J.J. Watt and Markus Golden in the front seven and Anderson projects as one of the best defensive prospects in this class.

"We have talked to Will, we've talked a lot of players. Will's a good player. He's been a good player for a long time at a great program in Alabama," Ossenfort said.

"We've evaluated Will just as we have a number of prospects in the draft. Ultimately what our job is, is to assign a value to what we feel about Will and every other prospect.
