KC Chiefs WR Justyn Ross Arrested on Felony Criminal Damage Charge

Kansas City's second-year wideout was arrested and booked on Monday afternoon, per the Johnson County Sheriff's Office Booking and Release Report.

As the Kansas City Chiefs shift their focus from the Los Angeles Chargers to the Denver Broncos, something off the field is also appearing on the radar. According to the Monday Booking and Release Report on the Johnson County Sheriff's Office website, second-year wide receiver Justyn Ross was arrested at 2:54 p.m. in Shawnee, KS, and subsequently booked at 4:27 p.m. on charges of criminal property damage in excess of $25,000.

These charges, which could evolve as the legal process plays out, carry a level 7 felony classification in Kansas. Per the aforementioned Booking and Release Report, a "DV" description appears in the comments section, which seems to indicate a potential domestic violence tie to the Monday arrest. There was no bond set or listed for Ross when the report was published on the site.

According to Adam Teicher of ESPN, the Chiefs "said they are aware of the arrest but had no comment" as of Monday evening. Teicher also mentions a Tuesday court date being listed for Ross.

In seven games with the Chiefs this season, Ross has logged a total of 81 snaps on offense (17% of KC's offensive snaps). In those contests, he's been targeted six times and hauled in three passes for 34 yards and no touchdowns. The former Clemson star broke camp with the team this summer after spending the 2022 campaign recovering from an injury, drawing consistent praise from quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid. Just hours prior to Ross's arrest on Monday afternoon, Reid spoke about a potentially increased workload for the 23-year-old.

“We’re trying to bring him along here," Reid said. "I know he didn’t have the catches, but he was in on quite a few plays. I just think the more of that the better for him. He’s got a lot of talent, and we want to keep bringing him along.”
