The Washington Redskins are in full preparation mode for their Sunday afternoon battle with the San Francisco 49ers. The Redskins will face off against a friendly face in Kyle Shanahan and his 5-0 patented offense. The Redskins ability to stop Shanahan's run game is one of Redskins Maven's keys to the game. They'll turn to their stellar defensive backfield to hold of the 49ers' passing attack, including Quinton Dunbar who has been named Pro Football Focus' top coverage corner through Week 6 of the 2019 season, and Week 6's NFC defensive player of the week, Landon Co

The Redskins will start Case Keenum again in Week 7, but one writer suggest they should reach out the Kansas City Chiefs and see if either Keenum or Colt McCoy tickles their fancy, as the Chiefs will need quarterback depth following the injury of Patrick Mahomes. While Keenum is starting this week, it's only a matter of time until Dwayne Haskins takes over, and he wants everyone to know they sit down and stop with the questions on his mental capabilities.

5 Biggest Storylines: Redskins vs 49ers in Week 7 :: Redskins Maven

To pull off a victory against the undefeated 49ers, the Redskins will need to bring their A-game on Sunday. Five of the top story lines include the series history, Redskins running game, 49ers running game (and the Redskins ability to stop it, Kyle Shanahan's return to D.C., and Terry McLaurin's ability to continue to build on his breakout rookie year.

Quinton Dunbar named PFF's top coverage CB through Week 6 :: Pro Football Focus

Dunbar has been fantastic in 2019, who alongside Landon Collins has carried the Redskins defense with other notable players missing time. Dunbar has earned a 92.1 coverage grade year-to-date.

The Chiefs will reportedly be without Mahomes' services for roughly three weeks. While Andy Reid has not traditionally chosen to trade for outside QB's in this kind of event, the Redskins are in a unique position to provide Kansas City some depth. In addition to Mahomes their primary backup Chad Henne is also out of action. The Redskins could package Case Keenum or Colt McCoy with Trent Williams or even straight up by themselves.

Dan Snyder and the Redskins Are Doomed to a Purgatory of Their Own Creation :: The Ringer

Since Snyder purchased the Redskins in 1999 the team's trajectory has only occasionally lifted upward. While their has been a string of bad luck, the team and its leadership has made its fare-share of mistakes. Cough, Albert Haynesworth, cough. The future is looking bright, with potential franchise quarterback Dwayne Haskins waiting in the wings, but much will ride on Snyder and Bruce Allen's ability to make the right choices going forward.

In fairness to Snyder and embattled team president Bruce Allen, Washington has had its fair share of bad luck. The bold decision to trade up in the 2012 draft to select Griffin initially looked like the right one. The Redskins went 10-6 during Griffin’s debut season, and he earned Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. He led an offense that was coordinated by Kyle Shanahan and included young position coaches like Matt LaFleur and Sean McVay to a no. 6 finish in DVOA and 27.3 points per game (fourth in the NFL). But Griffin’s devastating knee injury and eventual decline changed the organization’s trajectory.

Dwayne Haskins: “That’s really a joke, I pride myself on reading defenses.” :: JP Finlay

There has been a common (semi-racist) narrative in recent weeks that Haskins isn't prepared mentally for the NFL. Haskins, who was an Academic All-Big Ten and OSU Scholar Athlete twice respectfully disagrees.

Haskins and Warner connected on Twitter after Warner reached out offering his support and guidance. The Hall of Fame quarterback noted his late start, and with his credentials is living proof that it doesn't matter when you get your first opportunity, it's what you do with it.
