NFL Draft: Commanders Selecting D.C. Native Anton Harrison 'Would Be Nice'

Speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine the Oklahoma Sooners offensive tackle had high praise for his hometown Washington Commanders.

You may have heard recently that the Washington Commanders don't have the greatest organizational structure.

But that's not stopping young men who grew up around the franchise from wanting to play for the Commanders as they begin their NFL careers.

The latest such player to voice his desire to play for Washington is Oklahoma Sooners offensive tackle Anton Harrison.

"It would be nice," Harrison said when asked by Carita Parks of Double Take Sports about joining the Commanders in the upcoming NFL Draft. "That's my mother and my father, that's their favorite team...so that would be fun."

Washington clearly needs to address its offensive line this season, and even if they sign a veteran free agent or two could choose to add even more talent via the NFL Draft.

Offensive lineman Sam Cosmi is solid when he can stay healthy, but many want to see him move inside to right guard permanently if the team can find a new starting right tackle.

On the left side, Charles Leno Jr. is a reliable veteran who's been able to stay healthier than most with nine years of NFL experience. But he's getting older, and grooming a young talent would be a wise move for the Commanders

Washington can't just take any offensive tackle though. They need one who fits their needs and has the potential to grow into a starting role if not taking one from Day 1.

"Whoever takes me they won't have to worry about that spot for the next eight to 12 years," Harrison said. "(I'll) keep their quarterback protected. I bring a great effort, I'm an athlete...pass block, run block, everything."

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com says Harrison has average athleticism but is very self-aware and knows how to leverage his strengths while masking weaknesses.

According to Zierlein's evaluation of him, if the Commanders selected Harrison in the NFL Draft, they'd be getting a player who could grow into a solid starter on the offensive line.
