The family of the late Dwayne Haskins, a former NFL and Washington quarterback, reached a “partial settlement” with several people involved in his death, according to a report.

In April of this year an attorney representing Haskins’ family filed a lawsuit alleging the former quarterback was “targeted, blackmailed and robbed.”

At the time of his death in South Florida a medical examiner ruled the incident leading up to it an accident - a decision that was challenged in the lawsuit.

The parties involved in the lawsuit that settled in part on Friday included the driver of the truck that struck Haskins, ultimately leading to his death and the owner and broker of the dump truck, according to the AP.

While the family alleges Haskins was drugged in part of a robbery and extortion plot leading up to those moments, a toxicology report after his death confirmed the presence of alcohol.

In that test it was determined Haskins was legally drunk and had blood alcohol levels in the area of .20, well above the legal limit of .08.

The report goes on to state that the lawsuit points to one man and three women who allegedly drugged and robbed Haskins at a Boca Raton, Florida, hotel at an upscale driving range, a bar, and a nightclub, but does not go into specifics.

It is also alleged that the truck Haskins had rented was defective and led to his running out of gas, which eventually led to his leaving the vehicle on foot to cross the busy highway, where he was hit.

The lawsuit also claims the highway was improperly maintained and contributed to the former first-round QB being unable to navigate traffic safely.

Because the individuals and businesses Haskins’ family is suing have not been charged criminally, the Associated Press declined to name them specifically in its report.

Haskins was a first-round NFL Draft pick by Washington in 2019 after leading the Ohio State Buckeyes to a Rose Bowl and Big Ten Championship win during the 2018 college football season.
