Commanders WR Dyami Brown Evaluated for Concussion vs. Ravens

Washington Commanders wide receiver Dyami Brown's strong night has come to an end against the Baltimore Ravens.

Washington Commanders wide receiver Dyami Brown is catching touchdowns and the injury bug.

After scoring a touchdown at the end of the first half, Brown is being evaluated for a concussion, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Schefter reported shortly after that Brown had been cleared to return.

If Brown returns to health, he could be due for a breakout season. That's because he'll be catching passes from his college quarterback Sam Howell.

The duo's relationship goes back to their time at the University of North Carolina in 2019 and 2020. In their two seasons together, Brown totaled 106 catches for 2,133 yards and 20 touchdowns. He averaged over 20 yards per reception in that span.

Brown's play with Howell at quarterback helped lead to him being taken in the third round with the No. 82 overall pick by the Commanders.

"At UNC, Brown has been a deep threat who primarily wins with his athleticism," SI Draft Bible wrote. "A very dangerous route runner on a limited vertical tree, the Tar Heel complements his clean footwork off the line with very impressive linear burst and above-average long speed."

Since entering the NFL, Brown has yet to find his footing. He has 17 receptions for 308 yards and two touchdowns in two seasons. Brown's two touchdown receptions came in 2022 against the Tennessee Titans. Quarterback Carson Wentz found Brown for a 75-yard touchdown, and they connected again for a 30-yard score.

Brown only had three other receptions last season.

Along with Howell likely being Washington's starting quarterback, a new offense could lead to more success for Brown.

Commanders' offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy comes from the Kansas City Chiefs, who led the NFL with 73 passes completed for over 20 yards in 2022. Washington was 20th with 47.

The Chiefs were also tied for second with 13 passes completed for over 40 yards. The Commanders were tied for 10th with 10.

With more emphasis on pushing the ball down the field, Bieniemy's offense could open up more opportunities for the former third-round pick. With the new scheme, receivers Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson will likely draw more attention from opposing defenses, which could set up Brown for success.

Brown played his best football with Howell as his quarterback. With Howell seemingly set to take the reins for Washington at quarterback and a new offense that plays more to his strengths, Brown could be set up to be a key contributor in 2023
