Commanders Ex Kendall Fuller Signs with Dolphins

Former Washington Commanders cornerback Kendall Fuller is headed to the Miami Dolphins according to reports.

The Washington Commanders have been busy adding external free agents - up to 14 at last count - while keeping just two internal expiring contracts thus far.

None of the new additions are cornerbacks, a position many feel the Commanders need to address despite the presence of Benjamin St-Juste and Emmanuel Forbes on the roster for 2024.

Because of that, some hope was being held on to that perhaps veteran cornerback Kendall Fuller might return to Washington. Any chances of which appear to have disappeared.

"The Dolphins signing cornerback Kendall Fuller for two years at $16.5 million," ESPN reported Thursday afternoon. "The top free-agent corner goes off the board."

Fuller started his career with Washington in 2016 as a third-round pick in the NFL Draft coming out of Virginia Tech.

After two years he was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs in a deal that brought quarterback Alex Smith to the Commanders and spent two seasons there before coming back in 2020 after coach Ron Rivera was hired.

In the past four seasons, Fuller has been the most consistent player on the field and a leader and captain in the locker room.

He was also able to collect 10 interceptions in that stretch during a time when Washington was searching for ways to generate more takeaways, ultimately leading to the selection of Forbes in the first round of last year's NFL Draft.

If the Commanders are going to replace Fuller with a new addition it may have to come in this next NFL Draft, but there are other veteran options still available like Stephon Gilmore, Steven Nelson, and a younger option in Kristian Fulton who are still unsigned at the time of this writing.
