NFL Mock Draft: Commanders Take Lamar Jackson-Like QB

The Washington Commander holds the No. 2 overall pick and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury gets a new quarterback to work with in CBS Sports' latest mock draft.

The biggest question many are asking about the Washington Commanders this offseason is which quarterback will the franchise be taking with the No. 2 overall pick.

Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye are the "big three" that the Commanders have their eye on. While there has been a thought that Washington could trade down from No. 2 with a team like the Atlanta Falcons in a bid to boost its draft hand, it seems unlikely.

So if the Commanders do take a quarterback, which one will it be? In CBS Sports' latest mock draft, Washington gets a quarterback with a similar style to two-time MVP winner Lamar Jackson.

"No player did more for their draft stock during the 2023 college football season than Jayden Daniels," CBS Sports writes. "His playing style reminds me of Lamar Jackson, and I've said this for months now: would be shocking if, five years from now, Daniels ends up as the best QB in this class?"

With Washington holding such a coveted pick as well as having huge cap space, rarely has the organization had this type of weaponry to enter the offseason with.

Which makes it all the more important to get their decisions right.

With owner Josh Harris at the wheel, general manager Adam Peters and head coach  Dan Quinn have been tasked with turning the franchise around...and that begins with the selection of Daniels.

A proper dual-threat quarterback, Daniels would give the Commanders a quarterback who can slice up a defense through the air as well as on the ground.

In his last season for LSU which culminated in him winning the Heisman Trophy, Daniels threw for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns, and just four interceptions while rushing for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns as he did as he pleased.

The Commanders have weapons for Daniels to utilize as Terry McLautin and Jahan Dotson loom to be big benefactors of Daniels' arm talent and strength, while his rushing ability could mesh nicely with Brian Robinson Jr. as part of Kingsbury's offense.

Washington has a big decision to make on draft night and in Daniels, the franchise gets a quarterback to lead this new regime into an exciting era.
