Commanders Draft Prospect Chop Robinson: Cowboys' Micah Parsons Comparison?

The Washington Commanders got some of the Dallas Cowboys coaches, now it may be time to go find someone as effective as their best defender Micah Parsons.

INDIANAPOLIS -- This time of year everybody is looking to find a comparison for every player the Washington Commanders may target in the NFL Draft.

For edge defender Chop Robinson out of Penn State his comp will remind Commanders players of someone they dread seeing twice every season ... Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons.

The comparison doesn't just come from both men playing for the Nittany Lions in college. Both are disruptive as it gets and versatile in a way Washington has only seen on the other side of the field for the past few seasons.

And Robinson appreciates the comparison.

"I like Micah," Robinson said at the NFL Scouting Combine when asked about the popular comp to his own game leaving college. "I've been watching Micah since I was in high school also. He also played at Penn State. I've seen how hard he played. He's very relentless. He's very consistent with everything he does, so I just try to play my game after him."

Relentless and consistent are two things Commanders coach Dan Quinn and defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. are looking for in any new addition to the group.

But Robinson knows his tape will show plenty of that. Here in Indianapolis, he wants to confirm he has the wheels and versatility to make a big impact on the next level.

"I would definitely say with my speed, (I want to) show them my speed," Robinson says of his goals at the annual scouting event. "My versatility and dropping into coverage and stuff like that. That's the main thing."

How fast is Robinson? He says he plans to run a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash. Parsons ran a 4.39.

We don't know if Robinson will test to the heights Parsons did, and truth be told he's not expected to be drafted as high so perhaps nobody expects him to.

And whether or not you believe the Parsons comparison is a one-to-one projection or more a topic of style, there's no doubt a team like Washington could use a little more of what Robinson brings to the team.

Spend one minute talking football with the future NFL player and you can tell he just loves it.

Talking speed to power, how he wins in a pass rush, and about his goals as a defender in coverage, the joy he feels is evident.

"It means everything," Robinson says. "This game, it takes the stress away from me. It leaves me free-minded (and) at peace."
