Commanders Offense Building 'Good Foundation' During Training Camp

The Washington Commanders have undergone a big change offensively, with Eric Bieniemy now the coordinator and receiver Terry McLaurin likes that has been built thus far.

Times are changing for the Washington Commanders and for the better. With Eric Bieniemy now the offensive coordinator, taking over from Scott Turner, things are different...vastly different.

With a new scheme to learn and a coach who has a vocal and authoritative way of communicating, the Commanders offense has a level of detail not seen for years.

But for star receiver Terry McLaurin he is liking how the offense is learning Bieniemy's new system.

“I think we're making some growth steps," McLaurin said. "I feel like Saturday we had some little things to clean up, taking care of the ball and depths of routes, just the nuances of the offense. But I don't think guys are having a lot of MAs, which is really good. Means guys are doing the studying at night."

With the Commanders in the full swing of training camp, now is the time to iron out any deficiencies in the game plan and for players to get caught up to speed with what Bieniemy wants.

Of course, that is easier for some than others, and in McLaurin's case, he feels that it is about getting the little details right, and he believes that so far, there's something good being built.

"We're taking what we're learning in the installs to the field," McLaurin said. "So, it's just little details, which is what training camp is for so we can iron those things out before we start playing games. So far, I like the tempo in which we're going with and the attitude that we're approaching practice. That's a good foundation to start with.”

With so much for the offense to learn, along with having a quarterback in Sam Howell who has one regular season game under his belt, it has been a whirlwind few months for the Commanders.

But as McLaurin has stated, things are moving in the right direction, and at this time of the year, that's all you can ask for.
