Washington Commanders Busted by Buzzer-Beating FG vs. Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks knocked down a field goal to beat the Washington Commanders as time expired.

The Washington Commanders are embarking on a very long flight home after a rough 29-26 loss against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field on Sunday.

While the Commanders started off hot with a touchdown on their opening drive, they were unable to keep the lead.

The Commanders held up with the Seahawks in the first half; each team gave up nine points and went into halftime all tied up. However, the second half brought a little more offense and separation.

Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas (82) runs for yards after the catch against Seattle Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs (6) during the second quarter at Lumen Field.

The Commanders struck first in the second half with a Joey Slye field goal, but the Seahawks responded with a 64-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Geno Smith to second-year running back Kenneth Walker III to take their first lead of the afternoon. They tacked on a field goal at the beginning of the fourth quarter to take a seven-point lead.

However, Washington wasn't folding that easily. The Commanders marched down the field and scored a touchdown on the ensuing drive to tie the game at 19-19 thanks to a 19-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Sam Howell to running back Antonio Gibson.

Seattle responded with another touchdown of its own, this time to receiver Tyler Lockett with just 3:45 left in the game.

The Commanders had one final chance, getting the ball into Seahawks territory, and Howell came in the clutch again, finding his college teammate Dyami Brown for a 35-yard score to tie the game with 52 seconds to go.

However, the Commanders left too much time on the clock as the Seahawks were able to get within field goal range to line up Jason Myers for a game-winning 43-yard field goal.

The Commanders are now 4-6 and their playoff hopes continue to slip away.

Washington is back home next week when the New York Giants come to town. Kickoff is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
