'Definitely Disappointing': Commanders WR Terry McLaurin Sounds Off on Missing Playoffs

Washington Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin has revealed his disappointment over the missed chance to secure a playoff berth after a poor end to the season.

The Washington Commanders will not be a part of this year's playoffs. After being in a strong position to punch their playoff ticket, the Commanders' poor form has ended up costing them what looked like a guaranteed playoff spot...and potentially head coach Ron Rivera his job.

Sitting at 7-5-1 prior to the New York Giants away game on December 5, the Commanders have lost three and tied one to fall to 7-8-1 and miss out on the postseason.

For receiver Terry McLaurin, having the opportunity that has now come and gone to play playoff football leaves him with one overriding emotion.

"It's just disappointing," McLaurin said. "We had quite a few weeks to control our own destiny, and we didn't do that. You don't get too many opportunities to have a few weeks to get the one to two wins we needed to get to get in [into the playoffs]. So that's disappointing."

What makes the end to the season even harder to take is Washington was playing good football before the back-to-back Giants games.

Poor form coupled with an interesting quarterback change has seen a once-promising season end in a sour fashion.

For McLaurin, while he hasn't looked back on the year just yet due to there still being one game to play, the feeling of knowing there is no chance of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy is difficult to swallow.

"I haven't had the time to reflect on the whole season in totality," McLaurin said. "But just with that being the most recent thing that has transpired, and that's not making the playoffs, that's why we all come into work every single day to try and make the playoffs and win a Lombardi. To know that's not going to be an option for us this year is definitely tough."

With the Week 18 clash against the 12-4 Dallas Cowboys now meaning nothing, Rivera has opted to give quarterback Sam Howell his first regular-season NFL start.

With Carson Wentz and Taylor Heinicke already known commodities, the chance to look at what the team has in Howell presents itself, and McLaurin gave his thoughts on Howell starting on Sunday.

"I'm excited to be there and support Sam," McLaurin said. "I've seen some really good things from him this year."

The Cowboys and Commanders kick off at 4:25 p.m. Sunday at FedEx Field.
