Reynolds out with Guice returning

The Redskins are on the verge of getting a huge weapon back. In order to do that, they made a roster move to pave the road.

The Redskins released running back Craig Reynolds on Tuesday, providing the path for the expected return of Derrius Guice, when Washington returns from their bye week on November 17th against the New York Jets.

"I think he's worked diligently in his rehabilitation," interim head coach Bill Callahan said last week to reporters. "He's come back from two knee surgeries and he's really focused on trying to get himself well."

Callahan did provide a hopeful jolt that Redskins fans will finally get to see Guice for more than just a snap of the finger. "I observed him work harder than I've ever seen him work...I'm proud of the way he's worked and the way he's attacked his rehabilitation."

And then of course Callahan splashed a dose of reality on top of the hype pie saying "But he (Guice), like all of us, got a long way to go."

Sadly that is true.

Guice has played in one NFL regular season game since being drafted in April 2018. He tore his ACL in his first preseason contest and missed his entire rookie season.

This season, he was cleared for the start of training camp after a lengthy rehabilitation and then tore the meniscus in his non-surgically repaired knee in the season opener, leading to surgery and another injured reserve stint.

Guice only was able to rack up 18 yards on ten rushing attempts along with three catches for 20 yards in his lone game action.

It's possible that Chris Thompson could also return to the Redskins after the bye week, which would give the run-first Callahan and play-caller, Kevin O'Connell finally some weapons to work with.

The Redskins have struggled miserably to score touchdowns against superior defenses, with so many blue-chip pieces missing.
