Breaking: Adrian Peterson named starting RB vs Cowboys

Criticized near and far, both from outside the organization and from within his own locker room, Jay Gruden seems to have made a mistake making running back Adrian Peterson inactive for the season opener in Philadelphia. Now, the Washington Redskins head coach has to look at the future Hall of Famer in the eye and tell him he's starting just a week later.

Gruden announced at his press conference Wednesday that Peterson would in fact be active, and start in place of redshirt rookie runner Derrius Guice, who has a meniscus injury in his right knee. That's the opposite knee that he had ACL surgery on in 2018 that caused him to miss the entire season and this new tweak is expected to keep him out anywhere from one week to one month.

So in steps the 36-year old veteran who led the team in rushing last season with 1,042 yards and six scores.

Adrian Peterson will start at running back, if Derrius Guice is unable to go. Gruden said he and Peterson have talked about last week and said he’s in a good place #HTTR

Peterson will now look to add on to his 13,318 career yards, as he's second on active leader list in the NFL.
