Cowboys Speed 'A Problem For Anybody!' Can Dallas Out-Run Giants?

Dallas Cowboys return man KaVontae Turpin is gearing up for a bigger role in Mike McCarthy's offense, and he vows that the unit's speed will be a problem for anyone in the league.

More is being put on the plate of Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl return man KaVontae Turpin in coach Mike McCarthy's offense this season.

Turpin announced himself to the NFL last season as a specialist return man with his lightning-quick feet that could flip field position in an instant. ... Not to mention his constant home-run threat, either.

Now, with a bigger role on offense, Turpin sees himself as one of many playmakers at Dak Prescott's disposal.

“Dak always told me he sees me scoring four, five touchdowns on offense,” said Turpin as the Cowboys prep for the season-opener on "Sunday Night Football'' at the Giants. “I think I’ll be a playmaker for him. Just try to be here for him and just be a playmaker for this offense.”

The one thing that springs to mind for this Dallas offense is speed. With Turpin and Cooks having it in abundance, along with Tony Pollard, Deuce Vaughn, and CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys have, as Prescott says, "speedy playmakers."

And for Turpin, that kind of speed creates a problem for any defense.

“If you throw speed out there, it’s just a problem for anybody,” Turpin said. “You got me, Cooks, CeeDee and Deuce in the backfield, that’s too much speed. You gotta count for all of us.”

It has yet to be established that Turpin is now really a receiver, and not just a gadget man. But if so? It means learning the playbook. And getting to the point where he is a viable option on offense isn't something that was all his own doing. He had help.

“Meeting with Robert Prince (position coach), he helped me coming into OTAs, minicamp, basically telling me what they wanted from me, basically knowing my road,” Turpin said. “That helped a lot coming in and learning from him, and I feel like he did a great job of getting me prepared.”

And what better way for the Cowboys' sprint club to rush out the gate than in Week 1 against a division rival with the whole nation watching?
