FRISCO - The question was about whether the Dallas Cowboys, with Dak Prescott now under contract, are the “best team in the NFC East.”

“Yes,” replied Prescott, who has spent more than two years on one side of the negotiating table.”

“Absolutely,” said Cowboys COO Stephen Jones, who spent that same amount of time on the other side of that table.

It was a heady day here at The Star in Frisco, capped by the presser to make official Dak’s new four-year, $160 million deal, but then - maybe buoyed by all the positive vibes - re-capped by Prescott’s admission that he’s already thinking about next February and Super Bowl LVI.

"That's my plan, get a parade in Dallas," Prescott said.

That gets talked about a lot at Cowboys HQ, but hasn’t actually happened in a quarter of a century. Prescott, though, cannot be faulted for wanting to continue to live - and work toward - a dream.

“As a competitor, you watch people celebrate, you watch people do what you want to do and there's not too many more things that light a fire under you than somebody having what you want,” said Dak, whose watching was especially painful in 2020 as he was lost for the season in Week 5 due to a severe ankle injury and then had to stand by (on crutches) and watch his team go 6-10. “And every year we're not in the playoffs, or we didn't make that run, that's just more fire to it.”

And being sidelined added to the pain, right?

"You throw on there that I was holding my leg and didn't have a chance to be out there while guys were doing what was taken away from me,” Dak said, “I'm just excited to get out there and show you what this team can do. ...

" I'm excited just to go do it and just to know that this is my home, I'm not leaving. I'm a Cowboy and this is only the beginning."

The Cowboys believe that Dak “checks all the boxes,” as Stephen phrased it. One of those boxes is about his ambition and hunger for success.

“The next big press conference we have is hopefully in another year after that big parade,'' Dak said. "So there you go."
