Cowboys Big Week on Schedule? 'Injured' Aaron Rodgers' Final Matchup Mind Game

The Dallas Cowboys hold a 3-8 record against Aaron Rodgers over the four-time MVP's 18-year career.

"Frustration," was the word of the evening following the Dallas Cowboys Week 10 loss to the Green Bay Packers last season.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones went on to repeat the word six times in the span of four minutes postgame, while head coach Mike McCarthy also went on to say the 31-28 loss was “very, very, very frustrating."

After trailing 28-14 entering the fourth quarter, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers went on to throw two late game touchdowns and lead Green Bay to an overtime victory.

To add insult to injury, the loss marked the first time in franchise history Dallas fell after leading by at least 14 points entering the fourth quarter.

But an offseason trade between Green Bay and the New York Jets allows for the Cowboys to get revenge on a man who has haunted them over the past decade.

And CBS Sports - in its "each team's most anticipated game," says that Dallas will surely be circling its home matchup in Week 2 against New York.

"In case you weren't aware, Cowboys' bogeyman Aaron Rodgers is now the quarterback of the New York Jets," CBS Sports writes. "His move from the Packers to the Jets creates another matchup between the four-time NFL MVP and the Cowboys that wouldn't have happened in 2023 were he still a Packer. The Silver and Blue get to face a quarterback who has won eight of his 10 starts against the franchise while throwing 18 touchdowns to only two interceptions in those games."

McCarthy - Rodgers head coach in Green Bay for 13 years before making the move to Dallas - will have the opportunity to redeem himself early in the year in only his second matchup against the four-time MVP.

Of course, at age 39, he'll have to make sure he's healthy. This week at Jets OTAs, he's already "tweaked a calf.'' ... which is part of trying to play football at his age.

"Rodgers is also responsible for ending two of the Cowboys' best seasons of the 21st century in the playoffs, the 2014 and 2016 campaigns," CBS Sports writes. "There's nothing Dallas' fans and head coach Mike McCarthy -- once Rodgers' play-caller, confidante, and head coach while in Green Bay -- would enjoy more in the regular season then toppling Rodgers in what will likely be their final matchup with the future first-ballot Hall of Famer."

Rodgers and the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium. And yes, as always, CowboysSI.com will be right there with 'em. ... as Cowboys Nation hopes this team doesn't have to be haunted by Aaron Rodgers forever.
