Dak ‘Ceiling's Been Reached!' Cowboys Enemy Rips Prescott

A Super Bowl champion with the New York Giants doesn't see Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott joining him among the ranks of Vince Lombardi Trophy hoisters.

How long will Dallas Cowboys fans have to wait to see another Super Bowl victory? An old enemy claims it will take at least one more fruitless season.

Dak Prescott will be back for an eighth campaign under center in Texas. On a recent appearance on Fox Sports' "The Carton Show," former New York Giants star Plaxico Burress says that if the Cowboys want to hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy any time soon, they’ve got the wrong QB.

Burress appears to at least somewhat respect Prescott as a quarterback, claiming the Cowboys are capable of at least staying on the left side of the standing column. A sixth Super Bowl, on the other hand, will continue to prove elusive, he predicts.

"I believe he has reached his ceiling as a quarterback with the Dallas Cowboys," Burress told Carton. "They can win (with him), but they won't win a championship with him."

Burress was a public enemy in Dallas during his four-year term (2005-08) with the rival Giants. That tenure included a Super Bowl victory after the 2007-08 season, when Big Blue topped the Cowboys in the NFC Divisional round en route to an upset win over the undefeated New England Patriots in the Big Game's 42nd edition. Burress caught the game-winning touchdown pass from Eli Manning in the 17-14 triumph.

Since Prescott took over as Dallas' starting quarterback, the Cowboys have posted a 70-44 record in the regular season, which ties them with Baltimore for the fifth-best win percentage in the league (.614).

The postseason, however, has been a struggle: Prescott has been unable to snap Dallas' nearly-three-decade long streak of seasons that fell short of the NFC title game. Prescott guided Dallas to a win in the most recent postseason tournament, but a Wild Card triumph over Tampa Bay lay forgotten in the wake of a Divisional round loss to San Francisco.

Dallas will face Burress' Giants on opening weekend, capping the first Sunday in prime time on Sept. 10.
