'Love Him to Death!' Dak Reacts to Cowboys' Trey Lance Trade & Will Grier

The Dallas Cowboys made headlines following their acquisition of quarterback Trey Lance from the San Francisco 49ers ... but starter Dak Prescott wants to make sure that Will Grier, who starred in Saturday night's preseason win over the Las Vegas Raiders, gets to finish his time in Frisco with a proper ride into the sunset.

In their own different ways, it's possible the two biggest talking points in the NFL are quarterbacks and the Dallas Cowboys ... so what happens when they come together?

Cowboys signal caller Dak Prescott knows all about it, and Trey Lance, who was acquired on Friday via trade from the San Francisco 49ers, is currently finding out the madness of it all firsthand.

But not to be lost in the talk about what Lance's presence means for Prescott and so on is the performance that now-fourth-string quarterback Will Grier put together in Saturday night's preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Given the opportunity to start following the last-second acquisition of Lance, Grier starred during the Cowboys' 31-16 victory inside AT&T Stadium, completing 29 of 35 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns while taking only one sack.

After the game, Prescott, speaking for the first time since the trade, was asked several questions about Lance ... but near the end, wanted to shift the focus towards the star of the night - Grier.

"Honestly, right now, my heart and my mind are with Will," Prescott said. "I love that guy to death over there."

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy echoed similar sentiments, noting that the first thing he did after receiving word of the trade was call Grier, who handled the situation "very well" and put it all on the field inside the Star ... just as his coach had hoped.

"I just asked him to go out there and play your (butt) off tonight," McCarthy said. "It’s a great opportunity and just the way the team rallied around him. ... For a preseason quarterback performance, that might be the best performance I’ve seen since probably 1999 - Matt Hasselbeck had some of these.

"I’m so proud of him."

Now, Grier and the Cowboys will head their separate ways sometime in the near future - but the 28-year-old's strong preseason certainly gives him a good chance of catching on somewhere else.

And maybe, just maybe, Grier will get the opportunity down the road to reunite with Prescott ... or turn in another high-level performance inside AT&T Stadium, where he has all the love and support possible from teammates and coaches alike.
