ARLINGTON - The new "Texas Coast Offense'' clicked nicely on the Dallas Cowboys' opening drive in the Saturday night preseason finale here at AT&T Stadium against the Las Vegas Raiders ...

Even with a new quarterback. And even with a new play-caller.

McCarthy on this night is handing the play sheet to "coach Prescott.'' ... and the early results are good, as third-stringer-for-day QB Will Grier engineered the offense nicely on the opening drive of the game.

And it all ended with a classic West Coast Offense ... er, "Texas Coast Offense'' play, as you see here on Grier's TD run ...

McCarthy has spent all offseason urging his QB to take command of the offense and, throughout the installation period in the offseason, the Cowboys' head coach thought the seven-year veteran Dak "knocked it out of the park."

"He's built for this," McCarthy said recently. "He's taken complete ownership of the offense and you have to. He's the one out there playing."

Well, not in this game. Dak hasn't played all preseason, and against the Raiders, it'll be the soon-to-be-cut Grier in charge ... with the just-traded-for Trey Lance joining the QB room behind No. 2 guy Cooper Rush.

So what might see see out of "coach Prescott''? He talked of how he'll do it at QB ... so we assume that applies here ...

“I keep saying ‘aggressive nature,’ but it’s aggressive in the play calls with a great purpose in it,'' he said recently. 'Hey, if that’s not there, you know the reads, just get down to it.' Very clear and concise about getting to a play that I feel most comfortable with.''

So far so good, with "clear and concise'' ... but with Dak as the play-caller and with McCarthy as the overseer of the installation of the new "Texas Coast Offense'' and with Grier showcasing his talents for all the NFL to see in advance of Tuesday's Cutdown Day that forms the 53-man roster.
