Jerry Jones’ Cowboys Value Climbs To $9 Billion; Any Other Team Close?

Jerry Jones’ Dallas Cowboys franchise has reached a value of $9.2 billion, by far the most in the NFL

The Dallas Cowboys have occupied the spot of most valuable franchise in the NFL, and professional sports in general, for several years now, and that value keeps climbing higher and higher.

With Sportico releasing its valuation of all 32 NFL teams earlier this week, it came as no surprise that the Cowboys were on top once again. At a valuation of $9.2 billion, the Cowboys are continuing to smash records for sports team values. Compared to Sportico's 2022 valuation of $7.64 billion, the Cowboys value has increased by just over 20 percent.

For additional perspective, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones purchased the franchise for $150 million in 1989, meaning its value has increased well over 6,000 percent during his tenure. Not only has the Cowboys' value dramatically increased in recent years, but so has their revenue earned.

"The Cowboys generated $1.05 billion in revenue last season, becoming just the second sports franchise in the world to top $1 billion after FC Barcelona," Sportico writes. "The Cowboys have only four playoff wins since 1997 but have revolutionized how NFL teams run their businesses, from sponsorships to stadiums to mixed-use developments. Dallas’ sponsorship revenue exceeded $200 million last year, while luxury suite revenue topped $100 million."

And yet, Jerry often insists, his entry into the NFL wasn’t about a financial goal.

“To be a part of the future of the Cowboys,” Jones recently said, “it was never about the money. It was about a passion."

The division-rival New York Giants came in a distant second with a valuation of $7.04 billion, followed closely by the Los Angeles Rams in third at $6.94 billion. The NFC East is very well-represented on this ranking, with the newly-sold Washington Commanders placing seventh at $6.05 billion and the Philadelphia Eagles placing ninth at $5.95 billion. The collective value of every NFL team is stated to be $165 billion, which results in an average value of $5.14 billion per club.

As the franchise's value continues to climb higher and higher every year, the Cowboys hope that their financial performance can translate to a long-awaited sixth Super Bowl title.
