'Dallas Got Better For Sure!’ NFL Execs Praise Cowboys Offseason

Since the NFL offseason began, the Dallas Cowboys trades for cornerback Stephon Gilmore and wide receiver Brandin Cooks NFL have impressed fellow front offices.

The Dallas Cowboys entered the 2022 offseason looking to improve upon their 12-5 campaign and NFC Divisional Round exit.

And by trading for cornerback Stephon Gilmore and wide receiver Brandin Cooks, the NFL world is seeming to be put on notice, with multiple team executives praising Dallas' ability to acquire the duo.

“[Tony Pollard] makes the offense go; we saw that in the playoffs,” the first exec said to The Athletic's Mike Sando. “With Cooks and Gilmore, Dallas got better for sure.”

Cooks, who said it was 'surreal' getting traded to the Cowboys, has split time between four different teams over his eight-year career.

Over that time, the 29-year-old has accumulated 8,616 receiving yards and 49 career touchdowns, often being tasked as the WR1 for his offense.

Now with a receiving core of CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup, Cooks likely will not need to carry the weight of the receiving workload.

“He can still take the top off and he has been productive as a 1, so if teams choose to bracket CeeDee and roll coverage to CeeDee, Cooks is a player that can be pretty dangerous for them,” another exec said.

For Gilmore, the longtime veteran and two-time All Pro member joins a young and talented secondary co-starting Trevon Diggs.

“You always worry about aging corners, but because of his instincts and smarts and staying on top of routes and using his hands to reroute guys off the line of scrimmage, I thought he was a huge get for the Cowboys,” an exec said.

By adding Gilmore and Cooks, the Cowboys stack more talent to a team that ranked second in the league with seven Pro Bowlers last season.

But will that be enough to mark their first NFC Championship appearance since 1996?

Only time will tell.
