Dallas Cowboys Reveal 1 Key to Dak Prescott 'Chemistry' After Stellar Effort at Eagles

As far as a breakout game goes, Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson had one in the 28-23 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

After being a slow burn in the passing game this season, Ferguson burst to life against the Eagles, hauling in seven of his 10 targets for 91 yards and a touchdown as he was the Cowboys' second leading receiver in the game behind CeeDee Lamb (11 catches, 191 yards).

Dak Prescott has always seen tight ends as his security blanket, as evidenced by Dalton Schultz's last two seasons in Dallas (155 receptions, 1,616 yards, 16 touchdowns, including playoffs).

So, does Ferguson finally see his chemistry with Prescott starting to blossom after his breakout game against the Eagles?

“For sure,” Ferguson said. “I think it goes back to our preparation and what we do earlier in the week."

The young tight end has already surpassed his 2022 totals of targets, yards, and touchdowns, which is the kind of improvement the Cowboys coaching staff was hoping for when Schultz left via free agency to the Houston Texans.

Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson had his best game of his young career against the Eagles.

But while his game against the Eagles was good, as he and Prescott connected several times, Ferguson knows he has to improve.

"I think while it is kind of growing right now, I do got to be better on my end, you know, just catching the ball," Ferguson said. "I think I had two definitely that I should have had in my eyes, and yeah, just got to keep going in and keep working after practice, whatever it may be, meeting room, whatever it is.”

With the "Texas Coast Offense'' waking up in recent weeks, so too has Ferguson, as he has totaled a touchdown catch in back-to-back games (both red-zone), while 17 of his 32 receptions this season have gone for first downs.

The New York Giants are next on the schedule for Dallas as Prescott and Ferguson's chemistry gets another chance to build on what has been an impressive two-game stretch.

But the important thing now is to do it consistently, and with the "chain mover" in Ferguson getting comfortable leading the tight end room, maybe, just maybe, he will prove to be an upgrade over Schultz as the season goes on.
