Cowboys Jerry Jeudy Trade Try: Would 2nd-Round Pick Convince Broncos?

At the October 2022 trade deadline, the Dallas Cowboys were interested in pulling off a swap for Denver wideout Jerry Jeudy. Time to make another call?

FRISCO - We didn't quite understand it at the trade deadline.

And we don't full understand it now.

Why do the Denver Broncos seem dead-set on trading Jerry Jeudy?

As CowboysSI.com reported at the October 2022 trade deadline, the Dallas Cowboys were interested in pulling off a swap for Denver wideout Jeudy. Did the Broncos want more than a second-round pick, causing the deal to fall through?

That's the theory.

And now, as coach Sean Payton takes over in Denver, the buzz starts anew, with Sports Illustrated's NFL insider Albert Breer floating the idea this week of Jeudy as a potential trade piece this offseason.

But ... why?

Our Broncos SI guys don't see it, writing that "inside (team HQ at Dove Valley), it's highly unlikely that Jeudy will be placed on the trading block. He's young (23) and coming off his most explosive season as a pro in an offense that was the worst in the NFL.''

There is the matter of Jeudy's coming fifth-year option decision, but in the second half of last season, he staked his claim to that as exploded in the final six games, totaling 37 receptions for 523 yards and three touchdowns.

Jeudy, a 2020 first-round pick from Alabama, finished his third pro season with 67 receptions for 972 yards and six scores, leading Denver's receivers in all categories. ... and pushing him ahead of Courtland Sutton as a priority.

Really, maybe it's Courtland Sutton who should be on the trade block?

The Broncos have another receiver in Tim Patrick (who is coming back from a torn ACL ) who counts as high-profile, and maybe Denver doesn't need all three guys. So if the Broncos truly view one of them as expendable, and that "one'' is the 6-1, 195-pound Jerry Jeudy?

Dallas offered once. Dallas seems likely to offer again. But let's note this: There is a suggestion that it might take a "second- and a fifth-round pick'' to get this done. We think the history of this flirtation says that's not enough - but we think the history could and should be revisited.
