'Get Kyle Pitts to Cowboys!' Trade Urged by Dez Bryant

The usage of Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts continues to be a big talking point as former Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant wants to see him traded - to Dallas, of course.

FRISCO - As he settles in to his post-football career, Dez Bryant has come one of the Dallas Cowboys' biggest boosters. He wants it all for "America's Team.'' And he also knows the art of pass-catching better than most.

Put those two things together - include Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' draft-time passion for then-Florida tight end Kyle Pitts - and yes, it's easy to see why Dez would make a connection that in his dreamy view should cause Dallas to push for a trade with the Atlanta Falcons.

"Get Kyle Pitts to Dallas, please!'' Dez tweeted this week after watching some Atlanta action that didn't include much Pitts action. "This is unacceptable! He deserves better!"

Should the Falcons trade away former first-round draftee Pitts, a unicorn of a player? That's surely not their plan. But Bryant makes a good point about just what Atlanta's "plan'' is for the gifted prospect.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Bryant posted a picture of Pitts standing wide-open during the Falcons' season-opening win over the Carolina Panthers. Bryant used this picture to say that Pitts being that open and not getting the ball is "unacceptable" ...

It could be argued that Dez is cherrypicking one bad play here. But the truth is, through two seasons in Atlanta, Pitts hasn't proven to be the same dynamic playmaker he was in college - or, maybe better said, the Falcons' run-first philosophy has kept him from proving anything.

Pitts did show a lot of promise and found immediate production as a rookie, totaling 1,026 yards and a touchdown on 68 receptions in 2021. However, his numbers drastically dropped last season, where he recorded just 28 catches for 356 yards and two scores before a season-ending injury. And in 2023? Bijan Robinson has joined Atlanta as an offensive focus ... maybe leaving Pitts out in the cold again.

It so happens that the Cowboys are coming off a big win over the Giants in which the tight ends had the dropsies. It's also a matter of record that Jerry Jones was "infatuated'' with and coveted Pitts in that 2021 NFL Draft before landing Micah Parsons just a bit later. (Which worked out pretty well.)

If the Falcons are ever sellers here, Jerry might want to buy. But the smarter idea, and more to the realistic part of Dez' point. The Falcons employ a unicorn. Why not ride him?
