Cowboys 'Lowball' Odell Beckham Jr.? Inside OBJ Contract with Lamar Jackson's Ravens

Were the Dallas Cowboys the team that "lowballed'' OBJ, who is now signing on with Lamar Jackson's Ravens?

FRISCO - At one point in his flirtation with the Dallas Cowboys, new Baltimore Ravens receiver Odell Beckham Jr. - who on Sunday he did his deal - was said to want $20 million APY.

At a later time, he complained that some team had lowballed him with a $4 million APY offer - and progress with the Cowboys never happened.

Dallas moved on to its trade for Houston's Brandin Cooks.

And OBJ?

He's reportedly - from the initial word - getting "up to $18 million'' on his one-year deal in Baltimore.

As astute observers know, "up to'' is "AgentSpeak'' for "That's not really his salary, but if ...''

And now it appears the "if'' is $15 million guaranteed for the one season.

Not bad. For the player, that is.

And maybe OBJ hits his "if's'' because on paper he could be the most talented wide receiver Jackson's ever thrown to ...

And maybe OBJ going to Baltimore can lure Lamar home as well.

As first reported by NFL Network, OBJ, who was to meet with the New York Jets, is skipping that session. That means he's skipping a chance to play with Aaron Rodgers.

Meanwhile ...

Would Beckham Jr. make this move if he didn't believe Jackson would be his teammate? Indeed, would he make this move without having at least visited with the unhappy QB?

Odell, sources have told us, has discussed with teams the idea of signing for $13 million APY. If he's healthy after missing all of last year during knee rehab? That sort of number can be a bargain, even with the controversy and baggage that he can bring.

And maybe that number is closer to his real salary to start.

Beckham Jr. hasn't put up stellar numbers since 2019. But if this move is the thing that gets Jackson to sign on that dotted line? He - and Lamar - can put up big numbers together.
