Cowboys Minicamp VIDEO: Can Boxer Errol Spence Jr. Play Kicker?

As the Cowboys launched their minicamp here inside The Star, boxer Errol Spence Jr - a team favorite - hung out to watch some football.

FRISCO - Coming up in late July, right about the time the Dallas Cowboys are starting training camp in Oxnard, another DFW favorite, boxer Errol Spence Jr., will also be heading west to fight Terence Crawford for the undisputed welterweight championship in Las Vegas, a bout scheduled for July 29.

But on Tuesday, as the Cowboys launched their minicamp here inside The Star, Spence - a team favorite - hung out to watch some football. And CowboysSI.com was present when the subject of Spence's football prowess was discussed. ...

"I used to play corner and safety (as a kid),'' Spence said, before passing on what Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. “He said they might have a kicking job open for me!''

Spence would probably be wise to stick with what he's best at, because as athletic as he is, fighting at the welterweight level means he'll likely be moving to around 147 to 154 pounds for the much-anticipated battle with Crawford ... and with KaVontae Turpin and Deuce Vaughn on this Dallas roster, the Cowboys are already pretty stocked up on little guys.

Dallas is however in the business of adding a kicker to the roster at some point, certainly to compete with present roster member Tristan Vizcaino and - if the Cowboys sign an established vet - presumably to beat out Vizcaino.

But that's an issue for late July, as is the Spence fight with Crawford, with both boxers slated to earn guaranteed eight-figures paydays for their work ... yet another reason for Spence - age 33 and with his record of 28-0 with 22 KOs - to stay on the sidelines when it comes to football.
