Patrick Mahomes, Tiger Woods and Tony Romo?! Dallas Cowboys Ex Responds to CBS Criticism: 'It's Normal!'

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo doesn't worry about the increased criticism he faces as a member of CBS's No. 1 NFL broadcast team.

If you were to ask any current or former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, they'd likely say that criticism comes with the job, whether fair or not. That aspect hasn't changed even after retirement for one former Cowboys signal-caller.

Tony Romo has never quite escaped the public eye despite having been retired since after the 2016 season. The former Cowboys quarterback transitioned right into his broadcasting career, which still sees him serve as the color commentator alongside Jim Nantz on CBS's No. 1 NFL announcing team.

“It’s a normal arc of someone’s career,” Romo said recently when asked about the criticism he is currently enduring. “Honestly, I think a lot of people were rooting against [Patrick] Mahomes because he’s been there. They want to see people new.

“Same thing happens in football. You become dominant at things and then all of a sudden people are like, ‘OK.’ Then at the end, Tiger Woods comes back and everyone roots for you. It’s just a normal arc of a career."

It hasn't always been this way for the 43-year-old, as he was once the "new kid on the block" in 2017. During Romo's debut season as a broadcaster, he drew praise from many due to his ability to analyze what was happening on the field and predict what would happen.

Romo's opinion that many critics likely want something new can be seen with current Fox color commentator Greg Olsen. Despite being relatively new in the broadcasting industry, as he just finished his third season in the booth, he is getting much of the same praise as Romo once did.

And now along comes former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady taking his place on Fox's No. 1 broadcast team, meaning the GOAT will be the shiny new toy ... before at some point the critics will turn on him.

CBS's Romo and Nantz will be on the call in Las Vegas on Sunday for Super Bowl LVIII, where the Kansas City Chiefs will take on the San Francisco 49ers. ... and all eyes and ears will be on the Cowboys ex QB - and he's right ... that's "normal.''
