Jerry Rice's Son Reveals Thoughts on Cowboys in NFL Draft: 'Franchise is Amazing!

The Dallas Cowboys could have a hole to fill at the receiver position as Michael Gallup's future is up in the air. Might a San Francisco 49ers legend's son be his replacement?

It is now no secret that Michael Gallup's time with the Dallas Cowboys is potentially coming to an end. His lack of production doesn't mesh with the salary due in part to the ACL injury he sustained and since then, he hasn't looked like the same receiver.

That will create a job opening of sorts behind Brandin Cooks at WR3 (if you don't see Cooks as a WR2). With the Cowboys doing the rounds at the Scouting Combine as they conducted both formal and informal meetings, one USC receiver has revealed his love for the organization.

The son of San Francisco 49ers' legend Jerry Rice, Brenden, who had an informal meeting with Dallas, has revealed his admiration for the current NFC East champions.

“I think the franchise is amazing,” Rice said at the Scouting Combine. “They have CeeDee Lamb who's a great generational receiver, Dak Prescott and Jerry Jones, he's going to get them right, man. ... Just to be a part of that organization would be amazing.”

Rice

Rice had a breakout year at USC with Caleb Williams as he hit career highs in receptions (45), yards (791), and touchdowns (12) as he averaged a solid 17.6 yards per reception.

What could appeal to Dallas is Rice's physicality and his deep threat given his ability to get downfield in a hurry. He fights for every 50/50 ball, often coming out on top so the play is never over even if the throw isn't right on the money to him.

Rice (6-2, 212) is good at making tight, contested catches with his strong hands and if he can get separation, he has the potential to be a YAC merchant as his elusiveness in open space could match up well with coach Mike McCarthy's "Texas Coast Offense."

The Cowboys also have Jalen Tolbert and Jalen Brooks on the depth chart. So any rookie coming in has a long climb ahead of him. But with Prescott often getting the ball out quickly and on time in 2023, Rice could be a useful addition to the Cowboys' offense as a Day 2 or Day 3 selection.
