DeAndre Hopkins hangs out in Dallas as Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer suggests it might only take a second or third-round pick for the Cowboys or any other team to trade for the Cardinals wide receiver.

FRISCO - Amid rumors that DeAndre Hopkins might find his way out of Arizona due to a trade, this weekend he found himself in Dallas due in part to his friendship with Dez Bryant.

"Grind mode in full effect,'' Dez said in a social media post that suggested the pair of receiving greats were at Lewisville High School, a few miles from The Star in Frisco, for a kids camp and a gym session.

There is in no way an official tie to the Dallas Cowboys here, of course, though the buzz that would have Hopkins on the trade block does continue. And the Cowboys are making no secret of their desire to add a helper alongside receiver CeeDee Lamb in their Dak Prescott-led offense.

What would the price of such a trade be? CowboysSI.com is still not convinced that the Cardinals are in salary-dump mode, and indeed, even if that is so, the Cardinals will have to eat some dead money in a trade. Per OvertheCap, Hopkins’ cap hits would be $19.5 million in 2023 and $14.9 million in 2024.

Another reason for the Cardinals to keep the All-Pro receiver (which will also be noted as a reason for Dallas to make the call): According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, it might only take a second or third-round pick to land the Cardinals wide receiver this offseason.

“I think it’s going to be hard for (Cardinals GM Monti) Ossenfort to get great value for Hopkins, maybe even to the point where keeping him is a better idea than dealing him. As it stands right now, if I had to ballpark it, I’d say a Day 2 pick would be what Arizona would get in return in a trade,” Breer wrote.

Hopkins has dealt with some injury issues, would be a pricy get for Dallas and turns 31 this summer. Hopkins also no longer has a no-trade clause in his contract, so he has no control over his destination - not that he would wish to block a deal if he's destined to be a Cowboys target.

And if he is? Well, DeAndre Hopkins already knows his way around the neighborhood.
