Deion Could Replace Saban at Alabama? Cowboys Ex Coach Future Predicted

"I mean, quite frankly, Nick Saban doesn’t have the star power that Deion Sanders has right now." - ESPN's Paul Fineback, suggesting that the Cowboys legend could become the next head coach at Alabama.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Deion Sanders told us not long ago in an exclusive interview that he does not aspire to become the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys or any other team.

OK. But two wins into his Colorado tenure, onlookers are already speculating over Sanders' next job. ... so how about staying in college and taking over at the University of Alabama?

Said ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum: "I don’t know if Prime is on that list or not, but why not?"

"Coach Prime'' is atop the world of college football after leading his Buffaloes to wins over TCU and Nebraska - meaning the first-year CU head coach, who previously orchestrated a quick turnaround at Jackson State - has already recorded twice as many wins as the Buffs did last year.

Colorado is riding high ... and Alabama just suffered a 34-24 home loss to Texas. Saban is a legend but he is 71. So someday ...

"They’re all just nice coaches, but none of them have the star power," Finebaum said of other "usual suspect'' options. So what about Deion?

Finebaum is of course very plugged in to the SEC news. And while he is not pretending that he's "breaking a story'' here ... there might be insight into the thinking of the college football powers that be.

The ESPN show included a suggestion that the NFL's Jerry Jones could pursue Sanders to become head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, where he once starred and built his Hall of Fame resume. ESPN may not be aware that Sanders has already dismissed that idea ... though certainly ideas can change.

But for now? The Cowboys mention borders on being irresponsible. Finebaum, though, is plowing forward on the 'Bama idea.

"I mean, quite frankly,'' he said, "Nick Saban doesn’t have the star power that Deion Sanders has right now."
