'Here We Go!' Inside Dak Prescott's Cadence And Why The Dallas Cowboys Love It

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott's 'Here We Go!' cadence has taken social media by storm. What's the story behind the newest trend surrounding 'America's Team'?

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is putting together a season worthy of MVP contention. In doing so, he has invigorated the fanbase, turned heads in the media, and surely made opposing fans tired of watching defenses get beat downfield. And yet, the most well-known aspect of Prescott’s campaign may come before the snap.

“Here we go” is more than a cadence: it’s a warning of imminent destruction.

Since the bye week, Dallas is 5-1. Prescott has thrown for 20 touchdowns and just two interceptions in those six games, propelling the Cowboys towards a "Sunday Night Football'' clash with the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 14. Few, if any, are playing better football right now.

Thus, it’s no surprise when he gets a lot of attention during Dallas’ seemingly endless supply of prime-time games. In doing so, the cadence that precedes his dropbacks has been seen by the masses and become a revelation on social media.

But how did it come to be?

“Really, we wanted to make sure that we’re all getting off, using the cadence to our advantage,” Prescott said after Week 13’s 41-35 win. “The linemen wanted a little something before. For me, really, it’s to tell them, 'Stop the communicating, here we go.”

Every quarterback is unique in his cadence, but few are as distinguished (and grammatically correct) as Prescott’s. Its popularity almost certainly outweighs its on-field influence, but the Cowboys seem certain that it is for the best.

“I think it has helped those guys up front,” backup quarterback Cooper Rush said, per The Athletic. “They lock into it … But it has worked. You do it for a week and realize it’s not hard.”

The cadence has kept the offense on schedule and given fans a rallying cry of sorts. Don’t expect that to change any time soon. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it, right? Prescott is the league leader in expected points added per play since the Week 7 bye, and he’s gone toe-to-toe with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy in most metrics - without the benefits of four elite skill position players and the premier playcaller in the sport.

Dallas’ offense has reached new heights, but the cadence has somehow surpassed it. “Here we go” found itself in a song in which it is the namesake, performed by Preston Wayne and 13lackbeard. The Cowboys have embraced it, too, posting it to their social media.
