FRISCO - In search of a unique take on the blockbuster breaking news of the retirement of University of Alabama coach Nick Saban?

You need look no more. Enter ... Deion Sanders.

"WOW! College Football just lost the GOAT to retirement,'' Deion tweeted. "WOW! I knew it would happen 1 day soon but not this soon. The game has change so much that it chased the GOAT away.''

We must say ... We never quite looked at it that way in reflecting on the end of one of the greatest modern dynasties in sports history - or, at least, Saban's involvement in that dynasty.

An era is coming to a close, though, no doubt, as Saban is retiring, per multiple reports on Wednesday.

Saban, 72, won six national championships after arriving in 2007, tying him with Bear Bryant for the most in Alabama history. Saban is calling it a career with seven total titles, including one with LSU - and no coach has ever won more.

And Saban's impact extends almost endlessly. His coaching tree is incredible, and of course touches the Dallas Cowboys and the rest of the NFL. Same with his talent recruited and developed, as Saban has produced 44 first-round draft picks at Alabama.

Saban spent some time as the head coach of Miami Dolphins (2005-06) before launching into a career that totaled 17 seasons with the Crimson Tide.

And his interaction with Deion? Sanders became a sort of "frienemy'' to Saban as the two jousted when Sanders, the former Cowboys and NFL star, went into coaching at Jackson State. Next thing you know, though, the two legends are starring together in an AFLAC TV spot ...

And now Deion seems to be making a sympathetic pitch on Saban's behalf.

"College football,'' Sanders wrote, "let's hold up our mirrors and say HONESTLY what u see.''

We aren't sure what point "Coach Prime'' is making here. Nor are we certain that point has anything to do with Saban's farewell, which we might point out might just merit a simple "thank you'' without the overwrought overanalysis.
