FRISCO - Our bottom line on Shaq Leonard, the Dallas Cowboys free agent target who was here at The Star on Tuesday for a recruiting visit that included lunch with team owner Jerry Jones. ... but who is now in Philadelphia for a visit with the Eagles?

If the former Pro Bowl linebacker, recently cut by the Colts, ends up signing on to the Dallas roster, it'll offer a nice bit of help; he's a run-stopper and a locker room leader.

But if Leonard, 28, opts to join the Eagles - a fully understandable idea given the fact that he has ever right to be ring-chasing, and Philly is 10-1 to Dallas' 8-3 - that will not be a crushing blow to the Cowboys' Super Bowl hopes.

Amid some level of panic in the streets in DFW over the distinct possibility that he'll sign with the Eagles ... This isn't like trading for Charles Haley. This isn't like signing Deion Sanders. Leonard is a helper, not some "final piece to a championship puzzle.''

Further more, we assert that "leaving The Star'' without signing is not necessarily indicative of much.

He had a Dallas appointment and a Philly appointment, both scheduled. As we say in the FISH PODCAST, if you had two lunches scheduled with two supermodels, and even as the first one went just fine ... Why would you cancel the second one?

Meanwhile ... Is the "aura'' of the Cowboys - Jerry Jones' word - enough?

"We've got an attractive situation here,'' he said. "Not only with the way we are playing, but just the aura of the Dallas Cowboys."

Could part of the lure be the impressive play of stars like QB Dak Prescott, even as he is downplaying his MVP candidacy by saying he hasn't really accomplished anything yet?

We address those issues and more in the Fish Podcast, above, and the Fish Report on YouTube below. Join in, Cowboys Nation, and welcome!
