Eagles Considering Sitting Key Players vs. Giants

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni hasn't ruled out sitting some key players Sunday against the Giants.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni surprised reporters on Monday when asked if he planned to sit any of his key players in Sunday's regular-season finale against the New York Giants.

"Yeah, sure, that’s a good question," he said. "We always try to think through everything at all times, and we are always thinking about those things. We’re going to do whatever we need to do to win this game. But still, that’s a consideration, what you’re saying, because we think through all those different things."

The Eagles are looking to win the NFC East for the second year in a row. However, in addition to a win over the Giants, the Eagles need the Cowboys to lose to the Washington Commanders in a game that will be running at the same time as the Giants-Eagles game.

"I’m not saying to you yes, I’m not saying to you no," Sirianni continued. "We’ll think through everything on that. We are preparing right now to play the Giants, and that’s been our big conversation so far."

If Sirianni does sit some of his key players, he's conceding that the Commanders have no chance against the Cowboys, who would clinch the NFC East title with a win on Sunday. And that's not only a poor approach to take, especially after the Eagles were upset by the Arizona Cardinals last week, but a risky one.

Not that the Giants, who have lost 13 of their last 16 meetings (regular season and postseason) against the Eagles, care either way, as it will be business as usual for the Giants as they prepare for their 2023 regular-season finale.
