Giants 2023 Schedule: What You Need to Know

The highly-anticipated 2023 NFL schedule is now released. Let’s find out a little bit more about who the Giants will face this season.

The New York Giants 2023 schedule is here!

Besides the obvious home and away games against Dallas, Philadelphia, and Washington, the Giants are set to travel quite a bit this year. They will travel to Las Vegas, Arizona, San Francisco, New Orleans, Miami, and Buffalo.

The Giants will play host to the Jets, Green Bay, New England, the Rams, and Seattle. This slate of opponents gives the Giants the third-hardest schedule, with an opponent winning percentage of .549.

The good news? The Giants are a much better team on paper than in years past. Coming off of a 9-7-1 season which included a playoff victory, the Giants retooled this offseason and improved in key areas, such as adding Bobby Okereke as their primary inside linebacker and drafting John Michael Schmitz to be their center. There were a plethora of moves made to improve the roster, and fans should be excited about this team’s potential.

Let’s take a closer look at the Giants’ 2023 opponents.

Dallas Cowboys

Week 1 | Sept. 10, 2023 | MetLife Stadium | 8:20 PM ET | ESPN
Week 10 | Nov. 12, 2023 | AT&T Stadium | 4:25 PM ET | FOX

Regular season series record: 46-73-2
Key addition: CB Stephon Gilmore | Key loss: RB Ezekiel Elliott

The Cowboys are coming off a 12-5 season and a second-place finish in the NFC East. Just like the Giants, they fell in the divisional round of the playoffs. The Cowboys didn’t make many big moves this offseason, but they were able to add former All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore via trade.

This only adds strength to an already tough Dallas defense. A cornerback tandem of Gilmore and Diggs gives the Cowboys little to worry about on the outside. They could also draft former Michigan defensive tackle Mazi Smith, a strong addition to the middle of their defensive line. There’s also news of linebacker Micah Parsons switching to defensive end.

On the offensive side of the ball, there are some questions about quarterback Dak Prescott, who didn’t have the greatest season in 2022. Prescott threw for 2,860 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. CeeDee Lamb, coming off of a 1,359-yard, nine-touchdown season, is looking to pick up where he left off. The franchise tag was placed on running back Tony Pollard, who took Ezekiel Elliott’s job after a 1,000-yard rushing season in 2022.

The Giants have to find a way to beat the Cowboys. They were swept again in 2022 and are now 1-11 in their last 12 meetings against Dallas, dating back to 2017.

Arizona Cardinals

Week 2 | Sept. 17, 2023 | State Farm Stadium | 4:05 PM ET | FOX

Regular season series record: 80-46-2
Key addition: OT Paris Johnson Jr | Key loss: CB Byron Murphy

The Cardinals finished last in the NFC West last season and are looking to bounce back quickly. Their offense has good pieces, but they can’t seem to put it all together. After trade rumors swirled all offseason, it looks like wide receiver Deandre Hopkins is staying put.

They also have Marquise Brown and Zach Ertz as other receiving options. There have been serious questions about whether Kyler Murray can be the quarterback that Arizona needs. He played in 11 games last season and threw for over 2,300 yards, 14 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Their offensive line was also an issue, so they took Paris Johnson Jr with their first pick.

The Cardinals defense is looking better on paper. They added Kyzir White to man the middle of the defense and drafted BJ Ojulari in the second round. Their secondary outside of Budda Baker is questionable, however.

The Giants have dropped their last two meetings against the Cardinals and should be the better team this time.

San Francisco 49ers

Week 3 | Sept. 21, 2023 | Levi's Stadium | 8:20 PM ET | Amazon Prime Video

Regular season series record: 16-18
Key addition: DL Javon Hargrave | Key loss: S Jimmie Ward

The 49ers are in a unique situation. They made it to the NFC Championship game until injuries finally caught up to them. The emergence of Brock Purdy last year puts him as the starter for 2023, assuming his elbow injury heals in time.

The 49ers offense is electric. With Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle, and Christian McCaffrey as weapons, any quarterback would be happy to play in that system. It also poses many problems for opposing defensive coordinators.

Their defense is just as good, highlighted by Fred Warner and Nick Bosa. They also added Javon Hargrave to their strong defensive front. The Niners arguably have the best defense in the entire league and are looking to shut down opponents again in 2023.

The Giants will face a tough task traveling to San Francisco. It’ll be fun to watch them compete with one of the top teams in the league.

Seattle Seahawks

Week 4 | Oct.  2 , 2023 | MetLife Stadium | 8:20 PM ET | ESPN

Regular season series record: 10-10
Key addition: Jaxon Smith-Njigba | Key loss: Quinton Jefferson

The Seahawks, like the Giants, were a team that shocked many in 2022. Seattle was able to punch their ticket to the playoffs but eventually lost in the Wild Card round.

The emergence of Geno Smith was the main reason Seattle could win as many games as they did. Smith threw for over 4,200 yards and 30 touchdowns with just 11 interceptions.

DK Metcalf had another 1,000-yard receiving season and also caught six touchdowns. 2022 rookie running back Kenneth Walker was also a big boost to the offense, as he rushed for over 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns.

Their defense also played very well. 2022 rookie cornerback Tariq Woolen grabbed six interceptions last year. They drafted Devon Witherspoon in the first round this year to pair with Woolen, giving Seattle a young, exciting cornerback tandem.

Quandre Diggs and Jamal Adams fill out the backend, while Bobby Wagner decided to come back and lead the linebacker core. And former Giant Julian Love is now a part of Seattle’s strong defense.

After last year's meeting with Seattle, the Giants would certainly like a mulligan. It was a close game until it wasn’t, with the Seahawks winning 27-13. The Giants are 3-7 in their last ten meetings with Seattle and hope to break the all-time tie.

Miami Dolphins

Week 5 | Hard Rock Stadium | Oct. 8, 2023 | 1:00 PM ET | FOX

Regular season series record: 7-3
Key addition: CB Jalen Ramsey | Key loss: TE Mike Gesicki

The Dolphins are another team with pieces but couldn’t put it all together. Once quarterback Tua Tagovailoa went down multiple times last year, the Dolphins were never able to recover.

Their offense has Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill, those two alone create enough problems for defenses. However, the loss of Mike Gesicki leaves their tight end room with little experience. Their run game is decent, highlighted by Raheem Mostert as their primary back.

The Dolphins defense is looking to be even better in 2023. They traded for Bradley Chubb during the season and added Jalen Ramsey in the offseason. Miami now has Chubb, Ramsey, Christian Wilkins, Jevon Holland, and Xavien Howard on their defense, which excites them.

The Giants last played in Miami in 2021 and will take another trip there this season, hoping for a different outcome this time.

Buffalo Bills

Week 6 | HighMark Stadium | Oct. 15, 2023 | 8:20 PM ET | NBC

Regular season series record: 6-7
Key addition: TE Dalton Kincaid | Key loss: LB Tremaine Edmunds

Going into last season, the Bills were Super Bowl favorites and expected to take the next step. They didn’t, but they remain one of the top teams in the league.

Their offense, led by quarterback Josh Allen, is looking to finally get over the hump. They have star wide receiver Stefon Diggs as their primary target, along with Gabe Davis and Dawson Knox. They drafted Dalton Kincaid in the first round, another athletic playmaker added to an already explosive Bills offense. They also drafted O’Cyrus Torrence in the second round, which should help their interior offensive line.

The Bills defense is going to be very tough. Their defensive line has been a strength for years, highlighted by Von Miller. Miller’s returning from an ACL tear, but despite that, they still have Ed Oliver, Greg Rousseau, AJ Epenesa, and Shaq Lawson to create problems for offenses. Their secondary is among the best in the league, with Tre’Davious White, Jordan Poyer, and Micah Hyde returning. They’re also banking on second-year cornerback Kaiir Elam to take the next step.

This should be a fun matchup, as head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen hail from the Bills organization, among many other staff members and players.

Washington Commanders

Week 7 | MetLife Stadium | Oct. 22, 2023 | 1:00 PM ET | CBS
Week 11 | FedExField |  Nov. 19, 2023
| 1:00 PM ET | FOX

Regular season series record: 105-70-5
Key addition: CB Emmanuel Forbes | Key loss: C Chase Roullier

The Commanders are a team still trying to find its footing in the NFC East. They were able to string together a few wins in the middle of the season last year, then eventually fizzled out.

Their offense is honestly not bad. They should be able to put up some points with a trio of wide receivers in Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, and Curtis Samuel. The biggest question mark for years has been at the quarterback position, which is still concerning this year. The Commanders said they’re heading into the season with Sam Howell as their starting quarterback. It remains to be seen how that will play out.

Their defense boasts a strong defensive line. Highlighted by Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen, as well as Chase Young and Montez Sweat, the Commanders' problem lies elsewhere on the defense. Their secondary and linebacker core needed improvement. They drafted cornerbacks Emmanuel Forbes in the first round and Jartavius Martin in the second.

The Giants don’t seem to have a problem regarding the Commanders. They went 1-0-1 last year and earned their 100th all-time victory against Washington last season.

New York Jets

Week 8 | MetLife Stadium |  Oct. 29, 2023 | 1:00 PM ET | CBS

Regular season series record: 8-6
Key addition: QB Aaron Rodgers | Key loss: QB Mike White

An event that happens every four years, the Giants and Jets are set to meet for a regular season game in 2023. This time around, the Giants will be the home team.

The Jets made one of the biggest offseason moves, trading for Aaron Rodgers and going into win-now mode. Rodgers comes to a Jets offense that had everything except a quarterback. They drafted wide receiver Garrett Wilson last year, and he was able to surpass 1,000 yards and catch four touchdowns. Breece Hall, another 2022 draftee, was doing well until suffering a torn ACL near midseason.

They were able to add Allen Lazard and Mecole Hardman to their receiving corps as well.

Their defense is honestly scary. With Sauce Gardner and DJ Reed holding down both sides of the field and their front seven, including Quinnen and Quincy Williams, John Franklin-Myers, Carl Lawson, and Jermaine Johnson, the Jets defense will continue to pose problems for other offenses.

While the Giants lead the all-time series, they’ve lost their last two meetings against the Jets in 2015 and 2019. Both teams are generating serious hype, and it should be a fun atmosphere at MetLife when they meet.

Las Vegas Raiders

Week 9 | Reliant Stadium | Nov. 5, 2023 | 4:25 PM ET | FOX

Regular season series record: 6-8
Key addition: QB Jimmy Garoppolo | Key loss: QB Derek Carr or TE Darren Waller

The Raiders are looking to bounce back after a measly 2022 season. They had high hopes, but changes needed to be made once the injuries started piling up alongside losses.

They may have gotten rid of Derek Carr, but they signed Jimmy Garoppolo to be their quarterback for now. They also added Jakobi Meyers to a wide receiver room highlighted by Davante Adams. They added tight end Austin Hooper and still have Josh Jacobs, so their offense looks good on paper.

On defense, they’re led by former Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham. Graham’s defense last season was subpar, as the Raiders failed to hold leads in multiple games. They drafted Tyree Wilson in the first round, adding him to a defensive line with Maxx Crosby and Chandler Jones. They signed safeties Marcus Epps and Jaquan Johnson to fill in the back end.

The Giants last played the Raiders in 2021, beating them by a score of 23-16. Darren Waller, formerly of the Raiders, will face the team that traded him.

New England Patriots

Week 12  | MetLife Stadium | Nov. 26, 2023 | 1:00 PM ET | FOX

Regular season series record: 4-7
Key addition: WR Juju Smith-Schuster | Key loss: QB Brian Hoyer

The Patriots went 8-9 and finished third in the AFC East last season. It was a frustrating season all around, especially on offense. Mac Jones regressed significantly without Josh McDaniels being around. Jones threw for just under 3,000 yards with 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Their defense is the opposite. The Patriots defense had 30 total takeaways last season, 19 coming from interceptions. They ranked 8th in yards allowed and 11th in points allowed. With new cornerback Christian Gonzalez added to the mix, the Patriots defense could be even better now with a potential shutdown player on their unit.

The Giants have lost their last two regular-season meetings against the Patriots in 2015 and 2019. They last beat them in 2011, the same year they also won the Super Bowl against New England.

Bye Week (Week 13)

Green Bay Packers

Week 14 | MetLife Stadium Dec. 11, 2023 | 8:15 PM ET | ESPN (MNF)

Regular season series record: 27-34-2
Key addition: TE Luke Musgrave | Key loss: QB Aaron Rodgers

The Giants will face the Packers again, this time at home and on Monday Night Football. They were able to beat Green Bay last season in London. This time around, it will be a different-looking Packers team.

The big story was Aaron Rodgers being traded to the Jets. This leaves them with Jordan Love as their starting quarterback. Their offensive weapons are underwhelming. They have Christian Watson, who amassed 600 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie last year. They drafted Luke Musgrave, one of the top tight ends in this year’s draft, and Michigan State wide receiver Jayden Reed.

Their defense still employs a solid secondary, with Jaire Alexander and Rasul Douglas as their cornerback tandem. They drafted Lukas Van Ness in the first round to hopefully add a pass rush boost.

It’ll be interesting to see just how different this Packers team is compared to last year.

New Orleans Saints

Week 16 | Caesars Superdome | Dec. 16, 2023 | 1:00 PM ET | FOX

Regular season series record: 17-14
Key addition: QB Derek Carr | Key loss: DL Marcus Davenport

The Saints also had one of the biggest QB acquisitions of the offseason, signing Derek Carr. Carr now gives the Saints a stable name at the quarterback position, and they hope he can be their guy for the foreseeable future.

One of the targets he’ll have to throw to is Chris Olave, who had 1,042 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie last season. They also still have Michael Thomas, who is looking to finally overcome injuries and play his first full season since 2019.

Their defense still employs some big names: Tyrann Mathieu, Cam Jordan, and Marshon Lattimore. The Saints felt the need to add to their defensive line, drafting Bryan Bresee and Isaiah Foskey this year. They were also able to add Nathan Shepard to help boost their defensive line.

The last time these two teams met was in 2021 when the Giants pulled off a miraculous comeback victory in overtime. They’re heading back to the Dome in 2023.

Philadelphia Eagles

Week 16 | Lincoln Financial Field | Dec. 25, 2023 (Monday), 4:30 PM ET
Week 18 | MetLife Stadium | Date: TBD  | Time TBD | Network TBD

Regular season series record: 86-90-2
Key addition: DT Jalen Carter | Key loss: LB TJ Edwards

Speaking of a team that the Giants need to find a way to beat, the Eagles are looking strong yet again. Despite their Super Bowl 57 loss to the Chiefs, the Eagles had a strong offseason and had their sights set on getting back to the big game.

After a career year where he threw for over 3,000 yards and 22 touchdowns, the Eagles inked Jalen Hurts to a five-year extension. The Eagles offense soared last season with the addition of AJ Brown paired with DeVonta Smith. The Eagles offense was always near the top in explosive plays, garnering 63 plays of 20+ yards and 13 of 40+ yards.

Their defense, if it wasn’t scary enough, became even more intimidating for opposing offenses after their 2023 draft. In the first round, they selected Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith, two huge boosts to an already insane defensive line with 70 sacks last season. They also drafted cornerback Kelee Ringo in the third round. The Eagles now have Carter, Smith, Ringo, Jordan Davis, and Nakobe Dean, all of whom played big roles in Georgia’s championship defense.

The Giants played the Eagles three times last season and lost every time. With an improved roster, the Giants should be able to compete better with the Eagles this year and not see blowouts. They’re 2-8 in their last ten regular-season meetings.

Oh, and the Giants losing streak at Lincoln Financial Field continues, as it’s almost been a decade since they last won in Philadelphia.

Los Angeles Rams

Week 17 | MetLife Stadium | Dec. 31, 2023 | 1:00 PM ET | FOX

Regular season series record: 16-28
Key addition: OG Steve Avila | Key losses: LB Bobby Wagner, CB Jalen Ramsey

The Rams have fully entered rebuild mode. They sacrificed years of draft picks to win Super Bowls, which paid off during the 2021-22 season. The Rams had one of, if not the worst Super Bowl hangovers in league history. In 2022, they went 5-12 and finished third in the NFC West.

Their offense lacked the same explosiveness from 2021. Quarterback Matt Stafford was injured and eventually shut down for the rest of the season. The signing of Allen Robinson never worked out, and he was shipped to the Steelers. They still have Cooper Kupp, Van Jefferson, and Tyler Higbee as weapons. The problem last year mainly was their offensive line, so they used their first pick in the draft to select Steve Avila.

Their defense still has Aaron Donald, of course, but now lacks in key areas with the losses of Jalen Ramsey and Bobby Wagner. There were a few bright spots from last season with players going down, like cornerback Cobie Durant. However, the Rams have to be worried about their defense going into the 2023 season.

The Giants dropped their last three games to the Rams, dating back to 2017. Despite that, they’re 7-3 in their last ten matchups against them.
