Giants Need Mark Glowinski to Help Solidify Offensive Line

Can Glowinski have a bounce back year and solidify the interior offensive line?

Mark Glowinski, OG

Height: 6-foot-4 | Weight: 310 pounds
2022 Stats: GP 16/GS 16. 1,046 snaps, 1,045 at right guard.

In his first season with the New York Giants, offensive lineman Mark Glowinski allowed five sacks, tied with the 2016 season for the most sacks he’s allowed in a season. Glowinski also allowed four quarterback hits, 25 hurries, and 34 pressures and was penalized three times. As a result, Glowinski posted a 63.3 overall grade on PFF, his lowest since 2019. He particularly struggled with pass blocking, posting a 55.5 pass block grade.

However, it would be fair to give Glowinski the benefit of the doubt, as he was joining a new team with a different offense and scheme compared to his previous teams in Seattle and Indianapolis. Entering the second year of a three-year, $20 million deal, this is the time for Glowinski to prove what he’s still capable of and rebound from his struggles.

Best Case Scenario

The Giants generally have a very young offensive line, except for Glowinski, who is also the only one above the age of 30. With him coming off a see-saw type of year, a resurgent season would help the line.

Glowinski has shown great prowess as a run blocker during his tenure in Indianapolis. Hopefully, he can continue demonstrating that skill in New York while improving his pass-blocking ability.

Worst Case Scenario

If Glowinski struggles again in any way this coming season, look for him to potentially start rotating with another up-and-coming offensive lineman. The interior offensive line was the weak part of the Giants’ line, and Glowinski would do the team no favors if he didn’t improve from last year.

New York is paying him $20 million over three years, which equates to a $6.67 million AAV. Considering the team’s salary cap situation, the last thing they need is a player underperforming their contract value.

What To Expect in 2023

Expect Glowinski to be the starting right guard for the Giants in 2023. He has a good pedigree, is being paid like a starting-caliber lineman, and gives the young offensive line some much-needed experience.

The Giants want Glowinski to solidify the right guard position and help the younger linemen develop and thrive. If Glowinski struggles but the younger players improve, the Giants should still appreciate Glowinski’s presence.
