Giants Not Projected to Get 2024 Comp Draft Picks

The New York Giants currently have seven picks in the 2024 NFL draft, and are not expected to receive any comp picks.

The NFL will announce its annual allotment of compensatory draft picks within the next few weeks. As has long been suspected to be the case, the New York Giants are not expected to be among those teams included in the lucky group awarded extra draft picks.

That is the projection made by Nick Korte of Over the Cap in his annual comp pick review article, which doesn't even mention the Giants as a team eligible for a pick. But Korte's closer look at how the Giants got themselves into this situation will surely make Giants fans cringe.

Korte, who has a great understanding of the secretive formula, notes that the only two free agents the Giants lost after 2022 that might have brought the team comp picks were safety Julian Love, who signed with Seattle, and offensive lineman Nick Gates, who signed with Washington. Both would have ended up giving the Giants extra sixth-round picks.

However, the loss of Love was canceled by the signing of receiver Parris Campbell from the Colts, while the loss of Gates was canceled by the signing of defensive lineman A'Shawn Robinson from the Rams.

While Robinson ended up being a nice addition for the Giants--he took over for Leonard Williams after he was traded to the Seahawks--Campbell turned out to be the opposite. The Giants coaches never seemed to have a plan for Campbell, and when he started becoming a healthy scratch, that further exemplified that there was no clear-cut plan for the veteran receiver.

That said, the signings of linebacker Bobby Okereke and defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches, both of whom factored into the formula, meant that the Giants ended up signing more than they lost, which, of course, means no comp picks for the Giants. The problem is that the Giants didn't lose anyone who would have canceled those transactions.

The Giants currently have seven picks in the 2024 draft, including four in the top 70 (Roudns 1-3), one of which came thanks to the Leonard Williams trade with Seattle (Pick No. 47).

The Giants also currently have one pick in Rounds 4 through 6.
