Giants Rise in MMQB Weekly Power Ranking Poll

The Giants have picked up a little steam in recent weeks, given their first two-game win streak this season.

The New York Giants won their second straight game this Sunday after edging the New England Patriots 10-7. This win marked the giants' first multiple-game winning streak of the 2023 season and likely was enough to boost their ranking in this week's MMQB NFL power rankings poll from 29th last week to 25th this week.

Here’s what MMQB's Conor Orr had to say about the Giants' new ranking:

I think we learned everything we needed to learn about the Giants’ coaching staff after a second straight win with Tommy DeVito under center. Brian Daboll’s methods aren’t perfect. The staff isn’t perfect. No one is going to handle losing acceptably. But the Giants are ending the season with some momentum and, hopefully, cementing the faith that Daboll earned a year ago.

Yes, Daboll’s methods are not perfect, and yes, this two-game winning streak has reignited the confidence in his leadership after winning Coach of the Year a season ago. But last week’s scoring output also reminded many why the Giants, last in the league in points per game (13.3), have struggled.

In their last two games, the Giants defense has come through, coming up with six interceptions and forcing seven fumbles, three of which were recovered by New York, tying them for fourth in total turnovers this season (19), with 12 of those 19 coming from interceptions alone.

The Giants defense also produced six sacks over that two-game period. And their six turnovers against Washington two weeks ago in their 31-19 victory was the first time they had recorded such a high total since September 2014.

In their win against the Patriots, the Giants defense finished with three game-changing turnovers that kept a stalling Giants offense in the game despite not having Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence in the starting lineup.

Seeing the Giants slip down the draft order from fifth to sixth overall might not sit well with some fans who covet a new franchise quarterback. Still, Giants general manager Joe Schoen said in his bye-week press briefing that the goal was to take the best available player when the team is on the clock.

Heading into their bye week, the Giants offense has plenty of inconsistencies to refine, particularly after a performance where they had to punt the ball eight times. And with a competitive matchup against the Green Bay Packers looming ahead in Week 14, the Giants will need to bring their A-game if they intend to pull off the upset and continue their rise up the MMQB power ranking poll.
