NFL Draft Odds Have Giants Leaning Toward This Prospect at No. 6

The New York Giants have one of the top picks in the NFL Draft. Many expect them to use their first round pick on an offensie player, such as QB J.J. McCarthy.

The New York Giants have been linked to several top draft prospects ahead of next month's draft, but for those who like to play the odds, Fan Duel Sportsbook has the Giants as the team with the second-best odds of drafting quarterback J.J. McCarthy from the University of Michigan with the sixth overall pick.

The Giants, who hold the No. 6 pick and four total picks in the top 70, now have the second-best odds to select McCarthy after being on the outskirts of the conversation only a few days ago.

They are now +500 on FanDuel Sportsbook to pick the Michigan quarterback, trailing only the Broncos (+470), who announced on Tuesday that they will release Russell Wilson and hold the No. 12 pick in April’s draft.

The [Minnesota] Vikings, [Atlanta] Falcons, and [New England] Patriots are also in the mix. Every other team is 10/1 or worse.

McCarthy impressed many teams, including the Giants, during the interview process at the NFL Combine. McCarthy starred in a run-heavy offense, much like he could be in. He noted his mindset while quarterback at Michigan and how it will translate to the NFL.

"Stats weren't the big thing for me," McCarthy said. All I cared about was being the best teammate, quarterback, or whatever was asked about me. The only stat I cared about was Ws, and we did pretty well in that category."

Daniel Jones, the Giant's current starting quarterback, is looking to bounce back next season after only playing in six games this season. If Jones cannot remain healthy or improve his play on the field, McCarthy could be well worth the investment at sixth overall. McCarthy has experience at the highest level of college football, which has prepared him for playing in the NFL.

"I would say, being in those [championship] moments, whether it's out there visualizing on the field, going through every situation, you win the game in your mind, but when you win the game on the field, and you experience all the sensations of doing it on that big stage, it just gives you so much more confidence and with experience comes wisdom, and that's invaluable," McCarthy said.
