The New York Giants are leaving no stone unturned regarding their quarterback position, as the team reportedly met with soon-to-be former Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson.

Wilson, permitted by the Broncos to explore other opportunities, is expected to be released by the Broncos. Denver acquired the quarterback in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks in 2022 and gave him a five-year contract extension worth $245 million, of which $165 million was guaranteed, including $124 million at signing.

Wilson's meeting with the Giants, which came before a scheduled meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers, has been described as an "exploratory" meeting.

Giants general manager Joe Schoen has made no secret of the fact that the team will be looking to add to its quarterbacks' room. Daniel Jones is still recovering from a torn ACL, and Tommy DeVito is the only other player under contract.

Wilson is expected to be released by the Broncos before the fifth day of the new league year (March 18), when his 2025 salary ($37 million) will become fully guaranteed. He will then be free to negotiate a new deal with whatever team signs him.

As for what this potentially means for the Giants, Schoen has said that the "expectation" is for Jones, who has one more year of guaranteed money left on the four-year contract he signed last off-season, to start once he is healthy. But Shoen has also said that they want to have a quarterback on board capable of going in there and winning some games if Jones isn't medically cleared by the start of the season.

As for Wilson, he seems to be drawing interest from around the league, in some cases potentially as a starter, where if he were to be assured of such a job, he'd likely get a better contract than if he were to sign as a backup. Still, there's no harm in the Giants kicking the tires on the nine-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl LVIII champion to gauge his interest after a disappointing tenure in Denver.
