This NFL Mock Draft Goes Outside the Box for Giants' Pick at No. 6

NFL.com's Lance Zierlein has a brand new name for the New York Giants' sixth overall pick in the draft.

With the sixth overall pick in the NFL Draft, the Giants will be able to draft one of the top players available who could instantly help turn their team around. The Giants have many positions they need to address, but their two biggest needs are undoubtedly their wide receiver unit and quarterback.

While most draft projections have the Giants selecting players at one of those two positions, NFL.com's Lance Zierlein went with an outside-the-box pick for the Giants at No. 6 that no one has yet to link to Big Blue in the first round.

That would be Alabama offensive tackle JC Latham, of whom Zierlein wrote, "I understand that many Giants fans are clamoring for a change at quarterback, but it's tough to pass up on a chance to grab your first choice at a position of major need. Latham is my top tackle in this draft."

Latham played his college career at right guard and right tackle, which is a plus since the right side of the Giants' offensive line is the biggest need right now.

However, the Giants are thought to be planning to address the offensive line in free agency, where they are believed to be eyeing a veteran guard for that right-side position (that candidate will also likely have the ability to move outside to tackle if need be). And while Latham and Notre Dame's Joe Alt are the cream of the crop at offensive tackle, the Giants seem committed to running it back with Evan Neal, the seventh overall pick in the 2022 draft, at the right tackle spot.

That idea probably won't make many Giants fans happy, but the good news is that this is a deep class for offensive tackles where the Giants could look to snag one on Day 2 or early Day 3.

As for Latham at Pick No. 6, that right now seems like a stretch, but as Giants general manager Joe Schoen told reporters at the combine, in a few weeks' time, the roster will look different than it does today, and what they end up doing in free agency will likely shape their draft plans.

Whether the Giants fully believe in Jones as their quarterback moving forward can be debated. However, it cannot be debated that Jones lacked the talent at many positions around him that any quarterback needs to be successful.

The Giants have too many holes to fill in one draft, but selecting one of the best receivers or offensive linemen is the best idea for the team, regardless of which position they decide to draft.
