New York Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke probably would have been last week's NFC Defensive Player of the Week had the Giants come away from their game against the Buffalo Bills with a win.

With good reason. Okereke led the Giants with 11 total tackles (including two tackles for a loss) and recorded two pass breakups. He was also involved in both defensive turnovers, including a forced fumble recovered by Micah McFadden that helped set up a 29-yard Graham Gano field goal, and a tipped pass that McFadden intercepted.

Unfortunately, the POTW honors went to Vikings linebacker Jordan Hicks, who had a productive game that included ten tackles, one interception, and one fumble recovery touchdown against the Bears last Sunday.

That being said, Okereke, according to Pro Football Focus, was still the top dog in terms of coverage, recording the highest coverage grade of any defender to play more than 15 snaps in Week 6 (93.2).

Okereke, who started his Giants tenure slowly as he became acclimated to the Giants' defense, has been playing lights out of late. He currently leads the Giants in total tackles (53), the nearest teammate to him being safety Xavier McKinney's 35 tackles. Twenty-five of Okereke's tackles have come against the run.

Okereke, who is tied for the team lead (with McFadden) with five tackles for a loss, also leads the Giants defense in pass breakups (five) and forced fumbles (two).

Okereke was signed to a four-year, $40 million contract this past off-season and was voted one of ten Giants co-captains by his teammates.
