Breaking Down Andrew Thomas's Contract Numbers

In this story:
The full breakdown of New York Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas's new contract is out, so let's get right into the numbers.
- The deal is an extension, meaning five additional years were added to the remaining two of his rookie contract.
- Because he had guaranteed salaries for 2023 and 2024--2024 being the option year of his rookie deal which the Giants exercised, thereby making the salary guaranteed--those numbers did not change.
- Thomas's cap hit this year is $9.291 million. His prorated bonus is $8.271 million, which includes the original proration from his rookie deal plus the new signing bonus, which goes into effect this year.
- In 2024, his cap number jumps up to $23.675 million. He has a $5 million roster bonus and up to $1 million in per-game roster bonuses ($58,823 per game) for each year of the deal starting in 2024. He also gets a $500,000 workout bonus each year of the deal starting in 2024.
- The guaranteed money (his base salaries for 2023-2026) dries up in 2026.
- In 2027-2029, he's eligible for a $2.5 million roster bonus each year. Those bonuses will only be paid out if he's on the roster.
- His prorated signing bonus will no longer count against the cap starting in 2028 (prorated signing bonuses can only be spread over five years).
- Thomas has $52 million in guaranteed salary, plus his signing bonus.
- Thomas's biggest hit against the Giant's salary cap is in 2024, when he'll count for an estimated 9.2 percent against the team's total cap.
The Giants are listed as having $4,829,254 of cap space, which should be enough to get them through the preseason and the first month or so of the regular season. That is the third-lowest total in the league.
