In this story:

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll, the reigning NFL Coach of the Year, has landed in Pro Football Focus’s Top-10 Head Coaches ahead of the 2023 season.

Notes author Trevor Sikkema of Daboll’s inclusion in the Top 10:

New York's overall offensive expected points added per play jumped from -0.169 to 0.015 from 2021 to 2022. The team's EPA per pass went from -0.197 to 0.026, and its EPA per rush went from -0.079 to 0.095. And this was all with mostly the same players from one year to the next. The difference was Daboll, and he has an even more talented team heading into 2023. He is a head coach who can raise both the floor and ceiling of a roster no matter where it is in its rebuild or winning window. Those are characteristics of a great head coach.

Daboll, who came in at No. 10, got the nod for making the most of the talent he had last year in his first as an NFL head coach. The Giants, remember, were significantly hamstrung by a poor salary cap situation. They also had to navigate through injuries, and their skill position players outside of running back Saquon Barkley probably won’t be getting any Hall of Fame consideration in the future.

But despite the roadblocks he faced, Daboll and his staff led the Giants to a 9-7-1 record and its first playoff berth since 2016. With a stronger off-season, hopes are sky-high for Big Blue in Year 2 of Daboll’s regime.

Some might argue that Daboll's ranking should have been slightly higher, but give him time. There's no doubt that if he continues with the program parameters he's put in place and his harmonious working relationship with general manager Joe Schoen and the personnel department, it won't be too long before "Dabs" rises on this annual list.
