Giants Fall in Middle of Pack in NFL.com’s Post-draft Power Rankings

NFL.com wasn't as impressed with the Giants draft moves, as evidenced by the post-draft power rankings.

In this story:

Very few people will argue that the New York Giants did not improve their roster from a year ago, one that went 9-7-1 and earned a playoff berth.

But just as the Giants improved their roster, so too did their competition around the league, and so in terms of NFL.com’s post-draft power rankings, the Giants slipped two places from their pre-draft ranking, falling from No. 12 to No. 14.

Notes writer Dan Hanzus of the ranking:

The Giants didn't get many headlines for their draft haul, but they might have come out of the weekend with starters from their first three picks. Deonte Banks (selected 24th overall out of Maryland) makes sense as a starter across from Adoree' Jackson at cornerback in Wink Martindale's defense. Center John Michael Schmitz could be a second-round steal and should have the chance to be a Day 1 starter. Then there's third-round pick and Tennessee product Jalin Hyatt, a wide receiver who gives the G-Men the vertical threat they lacked a season ago. The Giants expect Daniel Jones to continue to ascend in 2023 -- well, one can only presume this, based on the size of his new contract -- and this draft should help fuel that goal.

Power rankings done this time of year don’t mean anything for the sole reason that, at this point, NFL teams haven’t even hit the field for Phase II of their off-season program, let alone know what their regular-season roster will look like.

But it’s always interesting to see what others think about how the 32 teams in the league stack up, just as it will be interesting to see which teams surprise once the coaches work their magic on what the various roles will be for the newcomers.

And for those wondering, The Eagles ranked second, the Cowboys sixth, and the Commanders 30th, the rankings reflecting how the NFC East finished last year.
