Giants Receiver Jalin Hyatt Looking to Make Noise on Offense

The Giants' third-round receiver aims to do big things in the Giants' offense.

New York Giants rookie receiver Jalin Hyatt has been generating a lot of buzz leading up to and after the NFL draft. And with good reason. The Giants' third-round pick, a guy they traded up to get, is yet another one of those speedsters that the team hopes will help open things up down the field.

Hyatt, for his part, is looking to make some noise on offense, in a good way, of course. Known for being a speed guy--he ran a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash at the combine, and the tape speaks for itself--Hyatt has made a career out of flying as defenders looking to stop him. 

The 6-foot, 185-pounder fits the mold for what the Giants have been lacking at wide receiver and has a true chance to become the Giants’ number one wide receiver and thus quiet some of his critics who questioned how much Tennessse's offense prepared him for life in an NFL offense.

“I'm a football player at the end of the day," Jyatt said. "Yeah, I came from Tennessee's offense, which I had fun in, learned a lot of new things in that offense, and now coming into this offense learning more new things. But at the end of the day, I'm a football player. I can play any offense and am glad I'm here.”

One big knock on Hyatt, who didn't partake in the team drills during the first day of the rookie minicamp ("That's something you've got to talk to [head coach Brian Daboll] about," he said when asked) is his route running ability as it pertains to running the entire route tree. 

Hyatt pooh-poohed the idea that the routes he was asked to run in college didn't prepare him for a potentially expanded role in the NFL.

“People are always going to say things," Hyatt said. "I think that's what I learned the most. I'm here now, and I'm here with the Giants, and the draft process and everything else is out of the way. 

"My only focus now is getting better, learning my new teammates, learning the coaching staff here, learning the playbook, and just going out there when my opportunity presents itself, and that's my goal, and that's what I want to do.

“I love the coaching staff here," he added. "They know what they're talking about. I'm with them 24/7, trying to get the plays down, learning the new playbook, and just being around good guys like that and knowing they know what they're doing. It just makes it easier for me. I just go out there and play and just listen to them.”
